You can farm boars/wolves for meat but I haven't needed to yet. Plenty of meat from just exploring.
Even the simplest recipes, like Queen's Jam (forage for the ingredients as you explore) and Carrot Soup (plant one crop, go explore, come back and harvest) can sustain you for a long time. And once you make some Draugr gut sausage....
I actually found I ended up with a ton more ingredients than I really need.
Heck, even grilled fish is a huge buff.
I gave up finding the second boss and went to that site that shows your seed's map. All my trader spots are on the edge of the world.
Food planting, harvesting, and cooking takes barely any time at all. I spend maybe one in game day every few weeks dealing with replanting and cooking food.
I had to eat three times. I dont remember the specifics, but my foods were roast deer, red mushroom, raspberry because i couldnt be bothered to find some necks.
"Foods last ten minutes you liar"
Yeah, and you dont necessarily replenish them the moment before you are going to summon the boss, nor do they expire all at the same time in this case.
Getting hungry and losing stamina TEN MINUTES after eating a drumstick is stupid and one of the main points of the thread. Protip: it ties into the excessively short day/night cycle.
You kinda just proved them right by saying you ate raspberries and a mushroom, which you really shouldn't be eating at this point, to complement your cooked meat. You should have used them as ingredients for BETTER food. I say kinda because if you ate three times (even if we consider you might have half the timer on both the mushrooms and raspberries when you started it), then the fight would have lasted 35 minutes (assuming you ate the raspberry/mushroom three times for the full time on them) with at least one time eating a piece of cooked meat to refresh it since it lasts twice as long.
Raspberries and Mushrooms (of any variety) only last 600 seconds (10 minutes) and cooked meat lasts 1200 seconds (20 minutes). You SHOULD have maybe eaten Queen's Jam or even Carrot Soup, which is made using the Cauldron with those ingredients, to complement your cooked meat. And raw meat can be obtained from boars you raise, though getting at least one star boars will net far more food as a source of easy meat.
Queen's Jam takes 8 each of raspberries and blueberries to make it, which can be foraged for pretty easily since they grow in groups often. And carrot stew needs three carrots, which you can grow on your own easily once you find your first seeds to plant them, and one mushroom which is again easy to forage for.
Queen's Jam gives 30 HP, 40 Stamina, 2 hp/tick, and lasts 1200 seconds (20 minutes). That's much better than a single Raspberry for a food buff.
Carrot Soup gives 20 HP, 60 stamina, 2 hp/tick, and lasts 1500 seconds (25 minutes). Again far better than a single mushroom for a food buff.
Drumstick lasts twice as long as a berry. If you are fighting second boss you should be growing your own carrots and honey. just exploring a section of an island should give you enough berries for jam. Jam, Meat, and Soup should double your stamina, give you powerful healing, and max hp.
Build a campfire near the boss summon (like you say you did) and eat all 3 when you get there. sit long enough to heal up because you control when the fight starts. With that gear you should be able to win without eating again.
Someone else said farming is weak but with honey and carrots and a cooking pot your stamina and healing should be at an otherwise unreachable level. It sounds like you are ignoring the entire aspect of mining and then calling the game a grind because you ignore what the game gives you.
