how to prevent griefers?
Had a viewer joining from my stream yesterday and i honestly didn't think anyone would be griefing in this game but hey i guess i was wrong.

So how do we protect against it since the ward still don't protect your buildings against damage.

What is your thoughts and ideas?
I still want people to be able to join my server while streaming but i don't want to have my ♥♥♥♥ destroyed and robbed again.

How about allowing server access in one your subscription tiers. i think thats how some streamers have done it.

It's on the game developers. If they make the game that allows others to grief then it's their fault. They can code the game to prevent it but choose not to. The scum sucking pigs that get their jollys from ruining the game play of others will always be with us. Preventing them from doing it is always a developer option.

Hmm, maybe do something like build stone walls around the spawn with a warded iron gate, only letting people in once they've been properly vetted?

Hello,

there are other ways to prevent griefing. You can install the mod "Leave my Base alone". With this mod you can prevent damage to buildings, because they get 100.000HP or more. You can set this yourself. If you then place the Ward in the building, you prevent that someone can enter the buildings. Also, destroying with the hammer is then no longer possible.

You can also install Valheim Plus, so you can also prevent damage against buildings.

Maybe this will help you.

We distribute addons/mods with our own gamelauncher and only with our launcher and mod/settings you can connect to the server. Is then just not really public.

Greetings

Those types of mechanics don't really stop griefers though... People will do things like build warded walls around somebody's base, or dig out the ground underneath so it all collapses. If somebody really wants to mess with somebody else they will find a way. The only way to really stop griefers is to not let them in.

Would seem the reasonable thing to do.

So, you are in favour of no YouTube videos or Twitch streams ever being made ever again?

Are you bitter because you have to work a job you don't like?

I have a proper job, but WISH I was making a living doing something I actually enjoy. Besides, half the world is in lockdown, so what else should they be doing?

Until they give more controls to the server admin, you simply can't have an "open" server. Too many trolls. And if you are streaming, well that's only going to compound it. Popular game was obviously going to attract toxic clowns, especially so when they are mad the game isn't PvP focused, so they can't "justify" being griefers like many survival games.

Anyone who has ever played other survival games can tell you it isn't the PvP servers where griefing happens, and PvP is never the justification used by griefers. They avoid PvP like the plague because then there are consequences for their actions

The game is meant for high-trust groups imho. In other words, friends. Inviting randoms to your game will result in a bad time. Btw if the ward protected against damage, it'd be the ultimate trolling device, when you think about it.

Welcome to "Why I don't play Rust". Griefers are the lowest of low gamers, IMO. You simply cannot protect against it in game - the wards should disallow ANY changes and damage and it's frustrating that they don't. I think the most ideal thing is that any enclosed space (with a wall/fence) that contains a ward, or as many wards as it takes to cover an area, should be a safe area that cannot be damaged. Then people have the option of leaving the ward outs and playing with that risk or having a completely safe zone.

Anyhoo... Get people to join a Discord for a period of time before you let them in, or only open up the server to subscribed stream members who you know. Letting randoms in will often result in pain for you.

I'm starting to build an idea around this. Maybe only let viewers join that has been active in chat and following the stream for a certain amount of time. And not just any random new who asks for a join.

I honestly didn't think griefing would occur in valheim until now.
Honestly as long as you let random people in you're going to get screwed over...
Play with people you know and not randoms, just because they end up in your chat doesn't mean much.
Regulars sure, but plenty attention seekers out there that will target streamers for trolling.

since there have been a few replies since post where made i want to mention that I nowadays use valheim save shield to backup my server per automatic.
I had an experience today the matter of fact where the previous griefer had tried to harass my stream without my knowledge bringing in the griefers friends. One of them joined the server and I mentioned that i have zero tolerance for any griefing just so the person knew from start.

it was all fine and dandy, i was doing my stuff that person was doing his, i come back to my base to see everything completely destroyed. my chat was then harassed by his groupies spamming me "Kaizou sends his regards". The name of the first griefer.
I respond with asking if they had fun, log out, press reset button and everything is restored then follow up with banning everyone from the team from my twitch channel.

I'm so thankful for this program.. it is the absolute best tool i have ever gotten since the first accident and can greatly recommend it.

Griefing will no longer be a possibility. Thanks for every suggestion btw.
