How can I recover my stuff? Died in Swamp
I died in the middle of a swamp. How the hell can I recover my stuff?

I'm not exactly sure where I died but I'm fairly sure, but now there are so many enemy Draugr leeches skeletons blobs everything following me everywhere I go, I can't even run in to try to grab my stuff...

I made so many progress, I'm now just in a death spiral trying to retrieve all my gear....

Does your equipment stay with your corpse forever until retrieved? I've never been in a situation before where I can't recover my gear.

I'm really really pissed off with myself here. And trying to retrieve just seems to make things worse. I've literally wasted about 5 in game days trying to recover it....

I mean. I could cheat. I could turn off all enemy AI and walk in and get it, but that seems kind of a low thing to do....

First of all, your gear will stay in the gravestone until your recover it. Secondly it is important to praise Odin if you want safe travels.

I would start to recover my stuff in the morning fully rested with some kind of backup gear and posion resistance mead. You could use the power of eikthyr to reduce your staminaconsumption. Your are always wet in the swamp so you should keep that in mind. You could try to establish some "safe" areas when you approach your corpse to regain some stamina on your way. Maybe slap down a workbench and build on a crypt or build upwards the big trees. The big trees cant be destroyed.

Praise Odin and good luck to you.

Take the deers power. Grab poison potion. Get to edge of swamp closest to body. drink. Run. Use Power if you aggro to many or get body. Don't stop, leave swamp. Put trees at your back. Jig right and left to not be on straight line for arrows.

How do you praise Odin? Is this an in-game mechanic or just a phrase?

I've tried doing all stuff, fully rested, Eikthyr but I don't have the weaponry to fight through, there are too many mobs and they are too strong to take down at once.

Also, there are only certain quick ways through the swamp that doesn't mean wading through deep water that slows you. If I'd try running, I'd get mobbed by about 5 leeches at once and die instantly.

It's good you can't permanently lose your gear (as long as it doesn't sink to the bottom of the ocean!). Thanks for confirming that.

I had that happen to me in the black forest at the very beginning and did not have spare gear or even proper gear for that matter. Eventually I stopped trying and rather concentrated on getting new leather armor proper food and more skill by killing what I could. Your gravestone will stay and also on the map until you retrieve it. Rather be ready than try to get it too fast. Work on sneak skills since that can get you past a lot. I remember building up my sneak skills by sneaking up on deer and clubbing them.

This but make sure you press "V" first to turn off auto pick up. That way your inventory is empty when you reach your corpse. If you come on a corpse that doesn't have your gear go ahead and grab it to get the corpse run buff.

The most important thing to know about corpse recovery is when you actually recover the corpse you get a massive survival buff called "corpse run". Reaching the corpse is thus the only difficult part, getting away will be simple.

If necessary you can set up a tactical death nearby to activate this buff earlier in the process.

That's not really an option, I had full bronze level 3 gear at that point. It's too much work and hours to recreate that gear. Do you realise how many hours mining copper and tin (if there even was resource around) to replace that amount of gear?

Yeah, half the problem is finding where I actually died. I'm not sure the map was accurate and I've got confused with the amount of deaths trying to recover that I wasn't exactly sure where the corpse was. It was a hellish and frustrating experience!

Upgraded bronze gear is a trap. You should concentrate on upgrading your food supply long before grinding on maximum armor, the diminishing returns are brutal.

In the end guys, I cheated. It wasn't worth the hassle and frustration on my part to recover it manually when I didn't know exactly where it was. I just turned on passive enemies and walked in and got my stuff. I've turned it off again now and will play normally.

Sad I had to cheat, but it wasn't worth the frustration otherwise.

Do you have Troll armor yet? I'm not saying you should recreate the bronze, settle for something lighter, swifter and sneakier like Troll/leather and while you get it you will build back your skill in prep for getting back the bronze armor.

like you do at any other place you died.. you put on your old stuff, buff yourself with food, and teleport to your swamp camp..
if you dont have a swamp camp AND you must sail .. you build a new ship, a portal at your base take enough ressources for another portal in a "safe" place near the swamp and build it.
Enjoy your learning curve.. and be glad it happend at the swamp..

my first dead at this game(near release) was by sailing near plains AFTER i prepeared for Moder.. i lost all my gear, a big ship and alot of stuff for a new camp to a damn deathsquito onehitting me.. this death teached me alot of things about the game... always have a safe base of operation before doing anything else.. and never go near plains if not full buffed.

sad to hear you used cheat codes.. if you do it once.. you will do it every time the game becomes "inconvenient".
i would delete the character, erase the world and start complete new.

Good choice, it's the only similar situation where I cheat. Don't be "sorry", it impacts exactly zero other people. You only live once and it's not worth spending 10-100 h doing something completely pointless because a developer had a hard on for keeping players over the fire for dying.

I've had to do the same. It is sad, but it quickly passed.
