Tip: Plant Birch trees by your base.
There's nothing worse than not having that 20 fine wood for the portal and having to fast travel for the Birch tree! I recommend having and maintaining a good Birch patch by your base. There's something to be said about avoiding the whirly portal and just going into your own back field and cutting down Birch. After a while, the birch gets sparse. That's a pro tip, and I only said "Birch" six times :)

Or clear every tree in a large radius around your home to bypass troll raids. One or the other.

The Birch trees that were around my build are long gone. I like logging at the end of the day, but that means using the (around) 130 health I have left. I don't want to run into a 2 star Fuling and his buddies with the sun setting. 2 star fuling (for me) is still nightmare fuel even two biomes after. Plus Birch trees look damn good around the property:) :) (imo)
I have a portal for wood that I move around, but having the trees right there seems easier :)

If you have a safe harbor in the Meadows, plant two pine trees on either side of your dock. You can see these easily from sea and use them to navigate your ship back to your dock.

Better would be a single Oak Tree. They and the large wall panels are the first and second things to render in at distance.

Also, perhaps a bug, at the least a quirk; putting campfires up on earthen pillars make a great waypoint marker as even when extinguished they will show up as a firey spot when they first render in.

Good point, however oaks occur naturally in the Meadows while pines do not.

Two pines standing guard on an oak, pretty sure that doesn't occur anywhere - and less time/effort than building signal/beacon towers! :)

I just turn my open-pit copper mines from the early game into tree farms. The steep walls of the pit keep you relatively safe from enemies and prevents the logs from rolling away. Works best when you have a really big pit from mining multiple nodes that were near each other.

I always set up a tree farm on every playthough I have done. I level a large area in the meadows near my base ( carting distance) and plant rows of trees. In short time I am basically farming Oaks ( which give a ton of finewood) and beech for regular wood to fuel my furnaces and build. By the end of the Iron Ave I have 2 iron chests full of wood and a iron chest full of finewood...enough to build pretty much anything in the game. I keep on farming the beech for charcoal and building and have more wood than I know what to do with. Each beech harvest produces a full cart of wood ( over 900 wood). I use the elder power and a good axe or even a troll to harvest if near the Black Forest. The nice thing about a tree farm is the trees domino eachother and its really efficient. I like Munkey's idea above as well.. anything to concentrate the trees hitting eacother and maximizing damage and ease of collection. Could also swap a dedicated portal for the cart. Cheers.

I've noticed Oaks have a higher Fine Wood yield than Birch. And it might just be my system but the drop rate for acorns seems about the same, possilby even higher, as Birch seeds now.
