Can you still mine out silver vein in 1 hit?
Title. I've seen videos of peopel getting rid of earth around a vein to expose it fully, and just with few hits the entire node collapses. Is this still possible?

Yes.
Munkey Aug 7, 2024 @ 1:04pm
Yes, the same applies to copper, rocks, or any breakable structure if you remove it's connection to solid ground.
The visual models do not necessarily correspond to their invisible collision boxes, however. It is often necessary to clear and extra 1-2 meters away from the object before the last invisible connection to the ground is severed. Any trees, rocks, etc. inside the collision boxes will also count as solid ground.

any vein, even the marble skeletons

To add to Munkey's overview, a pickaxe hit that leaves the entire remaining object *below* the ground works just as well as above, which is why this occasionally happens by accident with silver veins. Dropped resources will appear at ground level.

I mean...technically you can say "1 hit" you still have to hit the ground all around 500 times.

You don't though, that's the whole point. You can *raise* the ground a bit with the hoe and hit just one projecting piece of the ore if you arrange everything exactly right.

So that's why that happened that one time, thought something glitched or something, no it was simply not touching any visible floor outlines while under the ground. Good to know, thanks.

You can also pick down once and flatten with the hoe around the deposit. The hoe has a much larger radius so its much faster than using only the pick.

dont know about Silver but I was able to one hit "pop" several Copper deposits a couple weeks ago. So I expect the Silver deposits to still behave the same.

However I read in teh game forums lpre-Mistlands that on a multiplayer server the ore deposits don't "pop" as they do in single player mode. I haven't played on a multi-p server in a long time so can't say if that is still the case but i remember that back before the Mistlands update no one on our server was ever able to get the ore deposits to pop. I don't know if that is still the case. I also never tested if it was just being a remote server ot if the extra players logged in causesd the failure.

Based on my own experiences what works best is that you need about 3-4 meters completely cleared all around it. Not even trees or big rocks can be anywhere near the ore deposit or the game engine seems to think there is something holding the ore deposit up. I also dig out under the deposit as deep as I can go. Then it was just putting up a wood ladder or two and give the deposit some hits. Boom. Lots of rock and ore to pick up.

Hope this info is useful.
Good luck and Good hunting.

It works on a server and you just have to make sure that no part of the silver vein is touching anything else or the bit of the arm of the deposit that is stuck won't pop. Many times there is more than one silver deposit in a particular area.

The most I've found in one place is 6 deposits.

That raises a possible edge case, if there are two deposits in contact with each other, you probably can't do this trick at all on those.

I've never found 2 deposits in contact with each other. They've always been off set both horizontally and vertically.

Thanks for the confirmation that it works on servers. When it failed last time I was on a server I must not have cleared enough of an area around the deposit or there was some bit of rock inside the deposit holding it up.

It's really difficult to do on purpose without that mod that shows the bounding boxes.
