Crafting tables and "craftable area"
So i'm new to the game and i might have missed some infos.
Please don't spoil me, i'm enjoying it so far :)

So i wondered why the crafting tables allow us to craft ony on a portion of the map while you can buil numerous of crafting tables and basically craft on huge areas.
Or even just replace it wherever you want while you go further away from the place you started.

Wouldn't be way easier in term of gamer experience to just let us craft in way larger areas or maybe just being able to expand the area we can craft onto ? (costing some ressources maybe Idk)
The base one is pretty small in my opinion.

I mean, i find it annoying to buils crafting tables, detroy it and rebuild it again (or buil multiple ones) just to expand the area, especially that they need roof if we need to repair tools.

For example i've built a bridge accross a river, then a dock and i needed three of them.
Considering that the crafting can be pretty frustrating sometimes this adds up to it.

So is there a smoother way or maybe a patch in the pipes that will help with that ?

Nope, that's what it is. If you're early in the game and already exceeding the limits of the crafting tables, then... you are an excessive builder?

Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

And, yes, if you want to build large, you need multiple workbenches spaced out strategically. Not sure, if that is ever going to change.

The crafting stations do also double as enemy spawn exclusion zones and targets for raiding creatures so the game wants a certain density of them in player claimed areas.

If I was a craftsman building a deck at someone's house I could set up a table saw somewhere on the property near the job site. This would enable my construction efforts.

If a neighbor 3 blocks over stopped by and asked if I could also craft him a deck I'd need to pick up my table saw and move it to the new job site. Or use a second table saw for that project.

As someone mentioned the bench also has a second purpose and that is to prevent monsters from spawning in and around your base.

Okay, well yeah i tend to enjoy builing not necessarly huge buidings but in a big area, making routes and such things.
Thanks for the info :)

Oh i see, that makes more sense then thanks :)

Upgrades for the various benches also increase their area of effect. One thing that I and some other players do is hide additional workbenches in places where they don't affect the aesthetics. Work bench coverage is cylindrical so my typical hiding spots are under the thatch I use for weather protection.

Oh yeah the region started out as a sphere and that was kinda miserable for building anything vertical.

Smart.
Can we dig basements ? (never tried and can't play for now) and/or put those table undergroud ?

Is there a limit on how high buidings can go ?

Not so much a hard limit, but each material has a vertical support limit from the ground. Large rocks and trees incorporated into a building count as ground for these purposes.

You can dig basements but not very deep and they like to flood with water.

That's high enough, pretty impressive too. Thanks ;)
I want to believe he/she built it legit (without using mods or commands) but i don't think it is the case since it would be very time consuming.

For the basements its too bad but it could be a nice indoor swimming pool then ^^

Another question : i know we can level the ground but can we create an island ?

I desperatly want a sandbox in this game.

You *can* create an island in shallow waters but I wouldn't trust that much terrain editing to not impact game performance and reliability. There's also the issue of regions spawned as open water having much higher waves and more extreme weather events. I'd just try to find a natural island to start from, but there *are* mods that expand the terrain changes you can make to extreme levels and commands to spawn in giant rocks.

I believe the wizard tower was built using admin commands for flight and infinite resources.

I see, thank you.
For now i'll stick to vanilla version, maybe once the game reaches 1.0 i'll try mods.
Thanks again mate.

You can put work benches under ground but if you cover them completely they break.

Cool I didn't know about the workbench stopping enemy spawns, I usually destroy the ones I used after finishing my building if it didn't make sense to have one.
