Frustrating question about Stone Portal
Hi.
I just found flametal ore in the Ashlands biome and I want to transport it back to my main base in the meadows using Stone Portal, but I obviously need iron for a stone cutter to build the portal. Is there any way I can find iron in the Ashlands or do I have to sail all the way to ashlands once again with iron? Am I missing something?

You can sometimes find iron (and other metals) in the pots on found on some of the higher levels of the grausten ruins.

Try breaking pots in these huge buildings with lots of vines. They do contain random metals.

Thanks. Have been breaking at least 40 pots already but no iron at all. Guess I just need to continue.

if you have a stone portal at your base, you can teleport the iron in from there. only the departure portal needs to be stone, the destination can be a regular one.

You can keep breaking pots. The pots can have iron, first hand experience. You do not need very many.

I would say yes to sailing again. Just get it overwith in a much more viking way than knowing what to do before you go. If you want to do it normal, and you have not known how to do it before hand, then i think the normal progression the devs are looking for, is minimum a round trip. I mean you made it this far already!! The biggest nerf to AL was the interwebs. That trip back should be the last since you can build a stone portal on the "mainland" Two stone portals connected and your all set. Here I am giving advice I hope you dont read.....

Twice now (yes, you would think I would have learned the first time), I've torn down an outpost, trekked through mobs aplenty looking for a new place to drop an outpost in the vast reaches of Ashlands, just to realize, as it's getting late, dark, and my food/rested buff are wearing out that I'm somehow short two wood. I can make a workbench, but I'm two short for the stonecutter!

Of course, frantically cutting trees and logs only provides only ashwood and draws in countless mobs, so I end up spending the night huddled in some nook in a rock, or some such, waiting for light so that at least I don't have to fight too many starred mobs while I search for two wood.

I know how you feel!

You only need one stone portal. Bring Grausten and Molten Cores home. Build a stone portal. Take your two iron through it to the Ashlands. Drop it. Come back home. Deconstruct Stone Portal. Go through a regular portal to Ashlands. Build Stone Portal.

I just finally found more Molten Cores in a Putrid Hole and can finally build more than one. 😅

It's faster than switching worlds and dropping it on the floor.

i remember trying to fit one in my tiny main base. made it my "personal" one so that way i only need to carry the basic portal materials. but yeah like others have said, best to have one in AL and one home.

Thank you! It helped!

And thanks to everyone for contributing to the situation!

mistlands ancient armor tends to have iron and copper scraps when mined.
mistlands are usually found near ish to ashlands as well for shorter trips
