1. Eat the best food you can get.
a. Meadows: Deer, Boar, Honey
b. Black Forest: Deer Stew, Minced Meat, Carrot Soup
c. Swamps: Sausages, Blood Soup, Turnip Stew
d. Mountains: If wolves still wreck you, you're doing something wrong.

2. Go fully naked. Do NOT carry anything with you.
3. Press V to stop auto-pickup of loot lying around. You don't want that stuff to burden you down when you get to your body.
4. If you do not have access to frost protection potions, you need to do it methodically and slow: Build camp fires along the way, so you can warm up. You will need some stones and wood for this, plus a hammer.
5. Once you get closer to your body, pop either Eikthyr or Bonemass boss-power and make a run for it.
6. Once you've picked up your body, you will attain "corpse run". You will use much less stamina, and you will be much harder to hit. Use this to your advantage.
6. Run downhill towards the edge of the Mountains. The closer you get to it, the easier it is going to be for you to pick yourself up, in case you happen to die again.

Wolves are best killed with an atgeir, no matter the material. The secondary spin attack will stun them, then you can quickly poke them to death.

Edit: It's a common misconception among new players, that they don't necessarily need to upgrade their food, that their shiny new armor will protect them.

Nothing could be more wrong. It's always better to upgrade your food FIRST, before investing in that shiny new armor. If you have low health, the best armor in the world won't protect you.

I went to the plains fully naked and armed only with a flint knife. I ate deer, boar, and neck. I had about a 100 live.

I survived the first attack of a Deathsquito and was able to kill it with the flint knife.

make a trail of camp fire so you don't freeze to death on the way up, before leaving your base, sit still to get the well rested bonus, and eat all the vegies to build up your stamina, if possible pop a eikthyr power, and make a run for it, don't try to kill wolves, they will kick your ass even with iron gear if you're not careful.

Funny enough, you can still tame them like pigs, Using the pickaxe, dig a pit with a canal leading into it, build a workbench and lure them into it, build a platform beforehand so you can jump out, trap them inside with the wood barricade, and feed em meat, they love it.

Best 2 HP food you can make, At this phase it's serpent stew and wolf skewer if you found onions. The reason is to not be staggered easily , which is a sure death vs wolves.

1 or 2 wolves guarding your body shouldnt be a problem . ''you're being hunted '' event is where you need preparation.

Don't explore at night , use Bonemass power

Can always workbench, hoe raise ground 3/4 times under yourself and then bow them down at your leisure. They frequently just stay at the bottom trying to path to you. Kinda cheese but better than a death loop

This especially because your ability to absorb stagger is based on your maximum HP which only food can increase. Once you take a staggering blow in most fights it's all over.

the best way not to die in Valheim is timing ... if you just make a short sprint at the begin of the wolf attack animation he will bite the air ... so dig a hole build a little trap structure get some meat and just tame them for you ... or just tame a lox that will help you with the wolves too

try to go while daytime.. less enemys spawn and most dangerous enemy types only spawn in the night.
wolfs can be hard.. they hit moderate but very fast and hunt in groups.
And dont run away from wolfs.. they are most the time faster then you.

All great advice, ty!

Hit them first. The flying leap with a knife will let you close the distance and get that crucial blow to stagger or outright kill them from before they can bite you. All without slowing you down and using less stamina for followup swings, not to mention keeping your other arm free for a buckler to get that parry game going! A brief sprint to the side can also help you dodge their bite enough to get a quick swipe in with the dagger. It won't take many to stagger them and then they're all yours!

If you spot them first, a well-thrown spear with the unaware bonus is also grand, you can often kill one straight away and then only have to equip once to pull the knife and lunge at the next one running at you. Even if they've already spotted you and are on the way, a thrown spear will give you a head start on the fight without the time, stamina cost and need to then equip both hands that a bow would. The spear technique is bonus fun once you make one out of wolf fangs. See how much they like a taste of the medicine!

As others have said though, your diet is a big deal. Not just for health and stagger but for the stamina pool. You may not have noticed, but each tier of weapons comes with a higher stamina cost to swing. Especially with the jumping common on mountains, having a sufficient stamina pool is an absolute must, as is exploring while rested for the regen (make that base nice and cozy to get a longer duration!). The swamp should have taught the lessons of stamina management and the endurance game combat can be, keep them close to your heart.
