Ashlands and the Feather Cape?
I heard if you're going to Ashlands, it's best to leave your feather cape at home, due to the fact that it has a weakness to fire.

But my friends and I really love them! I suppose you can just keep downing fire resist potions. But is everybody really finding that the weakness outweighs the maneuverability?

I would say the benefits of the feather cape outweigh the downsides, as long as you do have barley wine ready. Fighting a valkyrie with a feather cape and no barley wine is definitely high risk. That being said, once you can make the ashen cape, you have a more even tradeoff with the extra armor and lower stamina usage, so it's up to your own preference there which to use. I typically prefer the ashen cape in the ashlands as it gives you more room to make mistakes in more difficult fights, and not needing to be so concerned about having barley wine up is a nice convenience, as well. I think the extra jump height and slowfall are mostly nice but unnecessary conveniences in the ashlands, compared to the mistlands where slowfall is a godsend.

Agreed. Feather capes are great in mountains or mistland, but ashlands is really flat. When you can make the 2 new capes, you have one with a ton of armor, and the other that increases you move speed. Both are better options for ashlands, simply because it is so flat terrain.

It's a game about running jumping . Fortresses .... jump over walls . Best cape in this game adds a big jump bonus . So yeah, anti fire potions are easy to make and you need it in this biome.

Just bring fire resistance potions, they override the resistance from the cape.

I have been bringing it along as an additional cape for situational uses for example gathering vineberries in those hard to reach high spots, climbing quickly on to coastal spires along the shoreline for sniping enemies, Jumping over smaller patches of lava, etc. As long as you take some Barley Wine you should be good to go.
