@Macdallan, your hidden link doesn't go anywhere, I'm afraid.
It's not a hidden link. It was a subtle suggestion to use the spoiler markup tag to hide your spoilers. I guess it was too subtle...
No worries. I've been taking 6 characters on individual solo playthroughs because I was interested in seeing how higher skills in certain weapon classes - sword, club, spear, axe, knife and bow - would fare in each biome. But it was getting obvious that such specializations were limited given the immunities, resistances and weaknesses displayed by opponents in each biome not to mention any weapon upgrade that those same biomes made available. So by Mistlands it was much easier to re-purpose two of my characters to go the mage path even though - as a person who does value skill growth - it meant starting from scratch with blood and elemental magic skills. Of the 6 characters, the mages have completed their Ashlands and the warriors are still slogging through. They did fine in Mistlands but Ashlands is a different challenge altogether. So, long story short - both?
@OctoberSky, thank you for your experience. It seems, mage is some way to go.
I've decided to make a special save for my world and character, and then go from there. This way I can always fall back to that save in case it doesn't work out.
Cheating? Maybe. I just call it an insurance... :D
Please keep your experiences coming, I value them greatly. Thanks a lot!
@electricdawn as it is right now, the game would favour magic when you get access to it. the second best equipment is really your hammer. specifically pre-load up your campfire and of course keep some wood and stone. the weight limit will prevent extra drops from being soaked up. you'll be less tempted to micromanage on the field.
more importantly, after every major fight going forward you can lay down those campfires to suppress "invisible" spawns. keep in mind, imho, i don't really think they get suppressed more so than moved. you'll see more dense packs just out of range of the campfire's influence. just be aware of that part.
as for build, nothing out there says you can't mix and match. i got my sword just in case i need to swat away ticks but recently taking a liking to ooze bomb and other stinky thrown munitions. it's not so great on the the bigger bugs, but as bow user, it saves me from wasting arrows on small fries. if you do go caraspace armour, you'd want an aoe weapon like that 2h hammer. also the helmet doesn't have a movement penalty so grab that too.
I'd say for now your priorities would be Station Upgrades> Feather Cape> Mistwalker> Spinesnap> any other Armour & weapons you want.
Also if you do end up going for mage gear, go back to the swamp to level it up, everything there is either weak to fire, blunt, or frost, or a combination of both and the 2 elemental staffs have this in each cast you make against them.
If it would be that easy, I'd done it. ;)
From what I understand, soft tissue is a very rare and finite resource. I only found so much I could make 22 refined eitr, and I haven't found more since. That's probably partially due to me heading south to find Mistlands, instead of east, west or north.
I found one region of Mistlands with one skeleton and one mine. Then I found two other very small patches right at the coast. Further south, just north of Ashlands, I found a fairly large, submerged region of Mistlands. Only the peaks show.
This region has the advantage of mostly not having any mist, so I could spot mines from afar. It has two mines, but you can't seem to find a jotunn skeleton on the peaks. They are in the (submerged) valleys.
Looks like I have to head more east- or westwards.
Otherwise you'll be sailing & searching for more skulls for more tissue in other areas, could take a while to do that. By getting bonus resources from fishing, you can control how much you get at a random chance, provided you prepared beforehand.
