New experience - abysmally slow arrows
I love archer classses, and with how promising the melee combat looked, I was looking up to crafting my first bow. And wow...
It feels like shooting through thick jelly with anvil-headed arrows. It is even worse than Battlefield 4's bullet system..
Does it get better with better bows? Or is there any way to fix this? :(

yes better bows are quicker - keep going you will see, there are a lot of bows at least 8+ - the crossbows also available but while more powerful are slower - so its up to your choice of play.

He's asking if the arrow projectile speed is getting better, not the draw speed, stamina consumption or whatever else.

According to the wiki crossbow velocity is 200 m/s
Crude bow (first one) maxes out at 35 m/s.
Every other both goes up to 50 or 60 m/s.
So yes your first bow is gonna feel absolutely atrocious.

Oh. Alright.
That's exactly what I was wondering about! Glad to know it gets better up ahead!

The first bow also feels like it shots lead arrows that quickly turn groundwards. That also gets better with other bows. Bows always need estimating of enemy path on longer distances even with the higher tier ones though. Crossbows are the one that feel more like a gun.

Bow skill also has a huge impact, reducing both draw time and stamina usage. At high skill levels you are faster than Legolas.

Yeah, but it doesn't change the projectile's speed - the aspect of the bows that is an issue for me.
I would understand if the starting bow had awful trajectory and poor damage, but the arrow speed required to deliver any damage at all is usually higher than the one here...

ya, git your Bow Skill to 100 if you want a 'normal' firing bow, lol. You gotta wait till the reticle is at it's smallest circumference to let go, there's an audio file for bow draw....I wait till that finishes before letting go, the reticle seems to get there first.

That, and crafting the best bow possible for the biome goes a long way towards a good 'range' build...

While yes, how slow the projectile is has less influence if you are just spray&praying some machine pistol :P

I know my bow char had a much easier time hunting certain critters in the 6th biome. Not because their weapon had a faster projectile than for my other chars, but because they put out 5 times as many arrows.

I'm not sure what each bows projectile speed is , but the next upgrade , the finewood bow is a substantial improvement, and without spoilers, there are several after that that are even better.

Fist bow definitely feels like trash.
Zugrok 11 JUL 2024 a las 3:32 p. m.
Crossbow later on fires like a bullet but a maxed out finewood bow shoots at a pretty decent speed of projectile. Which is the second one after crude. So fear not they get faster arrows soon :)

Go kill the first boss get copper make axe chop down some birch make better bow problem solved.

I actually don't think i've ever used the first bow in all my playtime, from what i've seen it's garbage. I just find some easy to obtain fine wood early on and roll with that.

Honestly, having done archer IRL I don't think the speed is too off point for these types of bows. By dead reckoning they seem roughly accurate.

New player to Valheim here (40 hours in).
I took down my first dark forest club troll last night with the first bow and a bunch of fire arrows.
Took a whole lot of running around and I have only got the initial bronze armour set but got it done in the end and damn....did it ever feel good when they went down :steamhappy:

Oh, that's interesting stuff!
I imagine the arrow drop and speed would be accurate provided we're literally using a tendon and branch for a bow, but it's the gravity pull on that arrow is still off, to me..
