Basalt Bombs

I love struggling and then realizing an alternative after the fact. Died in lava did like a death hop/skip to drag it out after mining Flame ore. Then I realize these things make little platforms.

Womp womp, but lesson learned!

I met a similar fate. I'm looking through the workbench meu , long after arriving in Ashlands, and dying in lava several times. I see them and I'm like WTF is THIS!

I had no idea what the basalt bombs did until after my first disastrous attempt at mining flametal. I blame the item description.
The smoke bombs also raise a lot of questions.

smoke bombs, apparently are for putting out fires which spread through the trees in ashlands. stops deforestation. also usable if you enable experimental feature - spreading wildfires. also stops your wood home burning down if feature enabled. but i've never tried this

I actually tried basalt bombs before getting on lava. But when we were to get on the flammetal vein platform, suddenly I got a push from behind and only just so bounced with jump an landed on safe land with minor burn.
I asked my brother if he kicked me off, but he was pushed off as well, worse for him to the side in the middle of lava so he died.
I can only imagine it was one of the random eruptions you cannot really predict.
