I deleted a backup file by mistake and lost about a year in progress, is there a way to recover old backups from the cloud ?
The thing is, I moved the file to local storage and restored the save, but never passed the file back to the cloud. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up I know but, any way to recover it ?

would a system restore back to like yesterday or the day before do the trick?

I just did a system wipe and installed multiboot :( it's imposible.
I wan't to know if they have like maybe a cloud backup of the backup?

I think so it should still be on the cloud back up, which you can access through the game menu, also i think it makes a directory you can prob also find with a bit of effort but yeah even though you moved it to local in my experience (from my memory of a year ago) so i could be off, but i think the cloud and or back up remains, and in fact that was a method i used to create additional "back ups" and then switch back to cloud afterwards

if you're struggling i can look into it a bit more but I think yes, try the in game menu should be multiple back ups depending on your in game settings, and also there should be a folder that steam adds to your machine iirc let us know how it goes

I think I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.
There's 2 options, recvoer backup and move to local storage.
I moved the one I need to local storage and then I did the whole delete OS stuff.

The OP deleted their entire machine, remember? There's nothing left unless they had a backup on an external drive which you should ALWAYS have!

1. NEVER rely on cloud storage.
2. ALWAYS do regular backups on external(!) hard drives.
3. Go to step 2.

Again, external backups are a MUST!

Below is the link to the Steam cloud storage space:

What you need to do is to look for your recent world files. They have an extension .db and .fwl. You need both of these files. Your character file ends in .fch.

They should both be recognizable by their name. Once you have them, IMMEDIATELY make backups of them on an EXTERNAL hard drive!

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

you mean when you're in the valheim menu you're seeing world delted, and the options move to local or recover?

I just recovered a deleted char today, it said deleted even though i dont remember deleting it seen there was a back up in the cloud, i clicked it it opened a drop down menu of 4x it saved my character, i clicked on the top one it recovered it

but alternatively, when you click move to local i believe it also creates a back up at that point of time but the post above is a good place to check, ill go explore the files a bit and see if i can find the locations im talking about, but yeah if you see the option to recover or move to local then try that, in that order

i might of misunderstood but you said you moved it then wiped your computer, so im kind of thinking you no longer see that option in game? but im not certain what you're currently able to do but ill check for the locations of files

the steam files i think are transferred locally, go to file explorer steam/userdata/(number here)/892970/worlds got a quick refresher from "lumah" on a steam thread hopefully its in there if you cant do it via the menu, theres might be more places to look pretty sure but thats your best bet i think hope it works <3

yeah sorry to hear that, but thanks for coming back to let us know. Yeah good idea to maybe have a thumb drive to back it up on every now and again and if you got the space, just another folder somewhere gl on your next world hope its even better

Thanks for that link. Kinda wondered about this too. Did a similar thing but managed somehow to get save back eventually.
