Valheim

Spawn rate in ashlands is crazy!
I can't explore anything beyond the portal on the shore that I made. I teleported and was already surrounded by vultures and skeletons attacking me even before the map finished up loading. Once I finish them there is already a new swarm coming endlessly. Now they destroyed my portal. I'll have to switch to passive creatures or easy mode to explore the land

Good to hear! I am glad they made it challenging and the challenge is creating special gaming moments that you will remember, moments that make you adjust even if that requires you to change the game settings to bypass what the developers envisioned.

save before risky situations. if you die, shut down valheim program before it saves again, :)

I agree, its's high. Maybe figuring out how to place protected workbenches is the answer

i love how ashlands destroys people. the cryout for nerfs of the difficulty have already begun. while i hope the devs wont listen this time i fear they sadly will again given they just proved theyll give in to outcrys if they are loud enough in the same update.....

It reminds me of attempting to enter the swamp the first time. Swamp spawns are greater, iirc, on the perimeter compared to the interior.

Found some success slapping down protected benches between fighting off enemy spawns. You really do need to battle for a toe-hold, and it certainly feels like landing to establish a beachhead in hostile territory.

A long, long time ago prior to the H&H update my wife and I found a lovely coastal patch with a natural harbor early in our first-ever map, though we were still in a mish-mash of rags and leather armor and the harbor in question was firmly in black forest territory. It was a long-running fight of chopping down trees and fending off trolls & every type of greydwarf while hastily erecting barricades and plopping down benches and fires to defeat spawns, until we had a veritable fortress established.

It's a fond memory. We got to replicate that experience in Ashlands.

The difficulty isn't the problem. The resistances, strengths and weeknesses of the monsters you encounter are fine.

The problem is that from the moment you reach the Ashlands you need to fight. Even aboard your ship you need to fight, accept that you're getting damaged without being able to do anything in return or risk your ship being wrecked.
if you make it past that and get on land, you're getting swarmed by the monsters living there. And by the time you've finally killed them and moved 10 meters they respawn and you need to fight them again. Until you run out of potions, food and / or stamina and either get killed or flee to your ship to restock or leave the biome completely.

There's simply no or very little time to recover before getting swarmed again and that's exactly the problem why people claim it's too difficult.
Not because the fights are hard, but because you're fighting against an overwhelming force. In both ways of speaking.

learn to use the terrian to your advantage. there is no reason to fight everything head on or fight at all.
i landed without any trouble. people still havent learned how to make landfall safely. they panic and act stupid. i have see clips of people play. i KNOW why they struggle. the enemy count is fully irrelevant. its the age old issue again :
noob hasnt learnt how biome works yet but goes straight into toe to toe battle. learn the enemies first. take your time.

the boat isnt needed anymore once you have made landfall and setup a portal thats protected. which was rather simple to do. youll never need to sail again once you unlocked the stone portal.

Great - have waited for this to arrive + from what I'm reading will probably never get there as I suck at sailing lol. Lost count of how many boats/ ships I have wrecked due to hitting things I shouldn't. At least I shouldn't (but won't take bets on it) as I'm so directionally challenged but this id due south so I should be right. Time to send out a sos to my friend that usually does the sailing. Clear skies + following seas everyone from this absolute albatross

it isnt clear how to stop the spawns. ive destroyed several spawners in the area, but mobs just appear out of nowhere. they dont seem to be related to spawners.

shield generator + benches, drops walls and build whenever you get a moment between enemy waves: goal is to quell spawns in the immediate vicinity and break LOS as much as possible

i have a perimeter of enclosed workbenches and a shield generator. mobs just appear out of nowhere. not directly inside the radius, but i am constantly surrounded. they seem to just appear out of the ground or something. no clear origin.
