do your part and dont complain about ashlands difficulty
reporting bugs is fine, but please dont cry about difficulty and waste the dev's time, delaying their work on fixing actual bugs and releasing the live patch after test.

many "open world" gaming enthusiasts cant fight. they just want to build barn houses and name their pet boars. that isnt the game's problem. its their problem. the game has a very good combat system which has a skill curve. rewarding combat skill isnt a design flaw, its a design strength.

look inward for improvement, instead of outward for nerfs and changes. i still see this forum cluttered with posts about how there are too many greydwarfs, the spear is bad, why isnt there more stamina, elevation problems, etc. the game rewards careful decision-making about how to approach a fight, everything from your loadout before you leave home to each tactical real-time decision to run, jump, roll, block, parry, primary attack, secondary attack, target prioritization, etc.

this doesnt mean that devs always get the balance right. but there is no perfect balance for every player, and complaining about it just creates disharmony in terms of what the devs need to focus on. if you are losing fights, consider whether your approach could improve before criticizing the game's design.

given there is difficulty settings now where these "players" can just remove all difficulty on a button press i dont see any justifcations in nerfs this time. the devs even said on thier recent news post that its supposed to be hard because its the 2nd to last biome progression wise.

i think getting 3 shotted in the best possible pre ashlands gear and food is resonable for the default difficulty. 2 shotted from anything 2 star. with 1 extra hit taken possible with maxed ashlands gear.

1 shots are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. no matter what. especially from archers. but pretty sure they didnt go that hard given what thier walk and talk said regarding this.

despite that : youll see nerf threads and requests day 1 of testing regardless.

Better yet, tell devs to do their part and fix the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ default difficulty curve and penalties.
The game rewards grinding and spending hours of prep for minutes of reward, and punishes you with hours of loss for seconds of misfortune.
There is no "careful decision making", just "lawl u didn't read the wiki and strategy guides, now spend an hour getting your !@#$ back, loser"

*Dark Souls* rewards cuation and punishes hubris, *Valheim* pretends to be about exploration but instead makes itself entirely about grinding harder than an old school JRPG.
Blocking is done extremely poorly and you have no clue what you can or cannot block/parry with any given item unless you A) suicide or B) read the wiki outside the game.

Game balance is as important as fixing bugs, and the devs have some serious balance issues to address on default. Or separate the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "drop everything" difficult from the other difficulty aspects. They only *real* thing this game does is waste your time when you die.

The combat wasn't the problem with the last update.

Why is that because there's a gameplay trailer coming out? Isn't that reading into things a bit much?

people base this on how mistlands was done back then. there is no 100% safety yet. but expecting the ptb tomorrow or VERY soon (within 10 days) after the trailer is absolutly reasonable. they wouldnt drop a trailer 1 month before a ptb.

the default difficulty curve is totally fine and very well balanced currently.
the default game is for the patient player who doesnt mind some grinding. so again there is nothing to "fix" there.

use the world modifiers and set the game to give you more resources or lower the death penalty and combat difficulty to casual level if you cannot handle the defaults.

when i read "waste your time" i wonder why you people play such games. they are literally designed to "waste your time" at thier core essence. wrong genre of games if you care about not wasting your time to play i would say. all survival type games waste your time grinding for resources. all of them. its part of thier core gameplay loop.

A lot of the drama in gaming comes down to people not realising there are players who are time rich and want something to kill the hours, and players with limited and fractured time who want every minute to count and be respected, and everyone's playing games built for the other guys and complaining about the 'design flaws'.

The daft thing is that with the custom world keys Valheim can be tuned for the needs of either, but it's very bad at communicating this fact.

ashlands shoud be banned because as a biom it emits a lot of CO2 to the atmosphere of Valheim, which in the long run hinders progress of deep north, melting it down. Change my mind if you dare.

That explains the choice of Midgard Day to release the trailer.

this is concerning. i hope the devs address this issue soon
hi friends Apr 22, 2024 @ 5:24am
i will gladly complain if they have something similar to mist in mistlands, because i despise how weak wisplights/torches are without mods

I hope nothing gets nerfed for a while, or at all. This is the second last biome, i mean look at it, it screams dangerous, so it should be threatening. Fortunately it actually looks difficult in comparison to mistlands so i am looking forward to this.
