yup, this is what I do.
actively : the staff of wabbitslaying errr i mean embers. no contest on that one. stupid to take out entire packs of them.
Atgeir has windup time, but there are rabbit about, just spinning it a few times will likely do the job.
That said, even for me, who pretty much only eats health foods, misthare is nice to have, but there are enough other recipes that don't require them that I never do anything to actively go after them.
for killing rabbits just put spikes around their spawns. you can get fancy and create bottle necks in terrain to be more efficient about it, maybe. I actually dug down to the bottom of one of the glowing roots and got my chickens spawning down there and rabbits spawn down there with them. Kind'a funny.
Since mobs don't attack walls when not aggroed they just try to path through the openings and murder themselves on the spikes.
Every time i go to replant and check them after i find about a dozen hare meat & scale hides who've killed themselves in the meantime. You have to repair the spikes occassionally but it's not exactly a huge time investment to either build or maintain.
Otherwise any base bordering a Mistland biome should have plenty unless you've spawnproofed the entire area.
Even greydwarfes one shot them with their rock throws, so a black forest or swamp generally works quite nicely. Plains do too of course but i find the other two have a higher density of enemy spawns, which leads to more kills in my experience.
