Deep North Biome // Settling Hopes
Ashlands is awesome, but its not really a biome you want to firmly settle in, at least for me.
It's more of a stop by.

A "One hell of a ride" to progress for sure, but I don't see myself stay there.
Just like most people don't wanna settle in Dark Forest, the Swamps, or Mountains because of unpracticle terrain and stuff.

I consider these "outpost biomes".
I will always prefer my Main bases to be in Meadows, or the Plains.

That said : Snow is cool, and Moutain sucks (practically speaking), that's why I hope they make the last Biome more of a "stay here and enjoy end game".

With its fair share of challenges ofc, I wouldn't want it any differently.
Ashlands is fight, fight, fight for your life.
It's literally a Hell Ride.

We would for sure wanna have a BIG BREAK after the hell we've been through...
Gather your stuff, move north towards final destination, that kinda thing.
Oh, and Snow is cool. Make me wanna stay here :)

Last Biome difficulty you would expect of course, but gimme a break man lol
Do you have any idea what I've been through back there ?!

given the new portal mountain bases are now way more viable than ever before. even better due to the new catapult. mountain bases got a MASSIVE buff in this update for thier usefulness actually while ocean side bases got nerfed into the ground.

and given the new portal i dont see ANY reason to ever move mainbase ever again tbh. they removed any reason to do that outside of asthetics. and i HIGHLY doubt anything will grow inside deep north as that wouldnt be logical at all considering what grows in mountain currently.

so deep north is just a final short stop outpost before the game ends.

that ship... has sailed. in both terms of words and actual gameplay reasons.

unless they do the evil thingy of "no portaling possible within this biome"

it will be very interesting to see what the gate-keeping effect will be for the deep north. the ashlands gimmick is its barrier to entry; the entire biome is like one big fortress. the patrolling birds and serpents, cones, and hot beach landing, not to mention the actual fortresses inside. the tank boat solves for the entry issues, which, while challenging, are ultimately not "hard barriers." you can technically get into ashlands with a longship, though, you will be taking some serious risks and the odds arent in your favor.

but, what will stop the player from taking the tank ship into the deep north immediately after mistlands? what else could possibly be used for gate-keeping that isnt already present in the ashlands? current deep north placeholder has ice floats, but the tank ship makes logical sense as an "ice-breaker" ship that can handle some bumps. perhaps there will be an extreme omnipresent weather effect that isnt survivable without the drop from the ashlands boss.

maybe an impenetrable ice wall that can only be melted with fire from the ashlands boss drop.

My guess : You will need an Ashland upgrade to survive the blizzard.

I make a large secondary base on top of a mountain pre-ashlands next to a Moder altar. Hauling up all the metal up the mountain made me feel somewhat retarded though. Still love the atmosphere and jumping off from my balcony and gliding down to my ship 300+ meters below, or into the mistlands / plains kind of made it worth it. The nerf to the feather cape sucks a bit though.

the barrier to entry doesnt matter. itll definitly not be travel related. a hardgate item is most likely as the ashlands boss drop. basically something you need to have equipped again in order to even survive inside the biomes borders.

as barrier to entry : how? you dont even need the ship. you can setup a catapult on a nearby mountain and just launch yourself into the deep north.

i dont see how they can stop the player getting in unless the enviroment alone is already lethal. so that will probaly be it.

and for the games final biome it makes somewhat sense to hardgate it.

Idk I think deep north isn't the last biome
why? because this game tied to norse mythology isn't it?

I think after deep north maybe there is portal to descend to hades underworld territory

they should do an "over the edge" biome. there are some youtubes of people going over the edge and surviving.

Sort of like Plains x10 :steamhappy:

Although, if I don't see Yeti or Frost Giants I'm going to be very disappointed...

why? they just removed any reason to sail with this last update aswell as any reason for the new ship haveing a storage hold.

i doubt the ocean will get much added anymore given this is the case now. it simply changed things and the devs added the ship as a gateing only thing now tells me they arent even planning to do much at all with the ocean.

i wouldnt expect much. color me suprised if they add anything important to the ocean.
Treez May 4, 2024 @ 5:33pm
What exactly could they add to the ocean lol? the kraken?

yeah, ashlands is so busy with the visuals and domino trees, its a very "busy" and calamitous biome. deep north should be desolate and deadly.
