Other than that you just walk around and find things. When you stop finding new things is a good indication that you have to go somewhere else.
Considering building, it's good idea to build every workstation and add-on available (just to see everything you have in your disposal and not miss out on some gear upgrades). Other than that you're free to build (or not) anything you like.
I died and had to go back to my start point to get my gear.
Does that mean that in the future if i was say half way across the map and i died it would still send me back to start point..... if so i think it would take a long time to get from start to where i died with not many items,
But a bid later in the game you will find a fast travel system.
As you may have gathered i am new to this .... when i have built a bed how do i " set it " as mine
Its an interactive object, like a door, just click on it.
Have you already beaten the first boss of the starting biome of meadows? You can find his location by clicking the small glowing runestone at the initial starting point with the circle of bigger stones.
I would build pretty much one of each craftable item. Well, maybe skip some weapons/shields, if you do not like the sound of them, because they do not unlock any more craftable items. Later same goes for some armors as heavy armors take much resources and slow you down.
objectives or not, the new biome promises more stuff in the home, and mistlands added a lot too. your "ultimate" home is likely going to need multiple do-overs if you try to do it before you have unlocked everything.
The game gives you the plot early in the game, you have to kill all the bosses and bring their heads back to the stone circle. That's the end to which you should be framing everything else over.
