how do i know what my next objective is
I only have about 14 hours in the game.
So far i have made my first small building to get a feel for how items link together.
I have made a small selection of weapons and progressed to leather clothes.

So ... as thread title says ... how do i progress in the game , should i build/make everything that is not greyed out and wait for something new to appear in the build list.

I am not sure how to find out what i should be doing next.

Where you first loaded into the game were several stones, if you didnt click them and read them I suggest you do.

Find Vegvisirs (on is at spawn) those point you towards your next big objective. But yes building everything a good approach too (especially crafting stations and components). You unlock new buildables by picking up items.

Aside from stones, ravens are supposed to guide you. So whenever one appears, make sure to click him and read whatever he has to say. You can also read everything they ever said to you again in the log (acessible from menu on the top right).

Other than that you just walk around and find things. When you stop finding new things is a good indication that you have to go somewhere else.

Considering building, it's good idea to build every workstation and add-on available (just to see everything you have in your disposal and not miss out on some gear upgrades). Other than that you're free to build (or not) anything you like.

Thanks mage .... i just discovered something that really peed me off.
I died and had to go back to my start point to get my gear.
Does that mean that in the future if i was say half way across the map and i died it would still send me back to start point..... if so i think it would take a long time to get from start to where i died with not many items,

You respawn at your last bed or if that doesnt exist at spawn.
But a bid later in the game you will find a fast travel system.

Build a bed, and set it as your's it will then spawn you there, I suggest building little camps as you go with a bed, that way you can at least spawn closer to where you died.

Honestly, I don't even care about the objectives right now I just wanna build my ultimate head quarters on that first island of mine >.> Theeen I'll go head hunting >.> Still gotta avenge my three corpses against the wolves though <.< but... priorities.

Its an interactive object, like a door, just click on it.

Take care to knowledge in which biome you are currently as you will soon find more of them and they are progressively harder so take care to be cautious.

Have you already beaten the first boss of the starting biome of meadows? You can find his location by clicking the small glowing runestone at the initial starting point with the circle of bigger stones.

I would build pretty much one of each craftable item. Well, maybe skip some weapons/shields, if you do not like the sound of them, because they do not unlock any more craftable items. Later same goes for some armors as heavy armors take much resources and slow you down.

objectives or not, the new biome promises more stuff in the home, and mistlands added a lot too. your "ultimate" home is likely going to need multiple do-overs if you try to do it before you have unlocked everything.

Did you disable the raven hints by accident? Most of what you've asked so far is clearly answered by the initial hints.

Need to build a roof over the bed preferably in a small house, and have a working fire near it.

The game gives you the plot early in the game, you have to kill all the bosses and bring their heads back to the stone circle. That's the end to which you should be framing everything else over.
