Lava Lamps
I say, absolute best bang for your buck, lighting wise, in this game.
Hell, might be the best bang for your buck period.
What say you?

Havnt made one yet. To busy being dead all over the place and constantly trying to get my dead bodies back. They do look great tho. One day when i get all my dead bodies back and my 6 boats, I will make Lava Lamps galore

So, they cost one flametal, one sulfur and one proustite powder. They give off a surprising amount of light that...you never have to refuel and I believe they gave a 2 comfort.
The first time I made one I was really shocked how much light it gave off. It's not a novelty. All around, I think it's the best bang for your buck.

the cheapest perma light is still whisp torches.

they give 1 comfort regarding the lava lanterns not 2.

and sadly they are still animated light sources. which sucks. if they where static they would be decent. but they dont provide light than dvergr lanterns do either.

unlike dvergr lanterns you cannot attach them to walls sadly. they need something to stand on which blocks the light going downwards.

Trophy from the boss in the smoldering crypt makes a really nice light source.

Dverger circlet on an armor stand makes a nice bright directional light source.

Never thought of that. Might have to try it.

I just saw in game it's only one. And your right, the Wisp torch is still the cheapest, But I agree, the animation makes it undesirable. That's where I think the Lava lamp has the clear advantage. It's a soft glow, but surprisingly bright.

Works great, good big field of light....it's what I use for illuminating areas.

you missed the point : both are sadly animated. and if anything kills base fps its animated stuff and smoke and tames and open burning fires.

dvergr circlet on itemstand is the most performance friendly since its a static light source unlike all others.

I still use mostly sconces on walls for light source.
Wisps torches can be seen from far away but they don't shine so bright in comparison to regular fire.
Dvergr lanterns are ok in a few places, reason why I don't use them everywhere is that to hang them you'll need a chain which is not easy to find (swamp dungeons might have one and those flying spectres which sometimes I can't find a single one in a whole swamp night).* I'm gonna drop a plain dvergr in my base to see if it despawns eventually.
Surtling trophies shine good, you can put them on mounts and are easy to get. They are a little creepy though.
* I just learned that you can take the chains from dvergr buildings.

For chains you can go into the swamp at night and hunt wraith.

Also the Dvergr lanterns are nice because it's clean renewable. Same goes for the wisp lights, cores, yellow mushrooms, dragon eggs, etc.

Sometimes you want that warm light and sometimes you want that cool light.,

Not really, the animation of the lava isn't a concern for me. The wisp torches are intrusive. I never thought the lava lamp would give off as much light as it does and I like the light it gives off, more of a glow. We just disagree there.

I rarely get Surtling trophy drops, don't know why, but that seems to be the one everyone gets but me. I have used a couple, and they're not bad, a plus is you can be creative with them.
I love that the Dverger lanterns don't need refueling, but I think they're just a little on the dim side. Also, you have to have a black forge, and I agree, the cost. Two copper, with the chain.
The lava lamp can be made with only a workbench and three ingredients, one being a single flametal. Like I said, I think it's the best bang for your buck considering materials, ability to make and the light it gives off.

I agree, I'm finding that the lava lamp hits that happy medium. I'm more akin to an amber glow, but I still want to read things. I think the lava lamp does that. Much better lighting than a real lava lamp.
