Why so poor optimization?
Geez, I am making a big base using stones near Medow shores where my main base is, it's a castle type. But the problem is unreal fps drop when I am near the structure and in or around it, fps dropping from 120 to 30-40 and even to 20 sometimes. My fps never dropped anywhere in the game in any scenario before I started building this base and still doesn't drop anywhere else than my base. What is wrong!? I have checked with settings, lowering and turning off graphics settings options, nothing working. The game is tedious as hell and then this kind of fps drops which are clearly due to poor game optimisation, is unbearable. The more I keep playing, the more I am finding cons than pros in this game, 3 years of EA!!

Every item placed is an "entity" that the game engine has to render / load and then your PC has to process. If the base is rather large and complex in nature filled to the ceiling with design, decoration, and so on ( Especially if you have a large storage system ) it is an extremely dense population of entities being loaded at the same time. The effects is the engine and or your PC struggling to keep up as you move around and render multiple things over and over.

I have no idea what type of PC you have so please understand I have no intention of blaming your PC only that it could be a factor.

I've found coin piles placed so they clip into each other to be unexpectedly laggy so if you've placed a bunch try removing or separating them. Glass, light/smoke sources, crops or animals can also have a noticable effect if there's a lot present.
If you press F2 it'll open an overlay that shows how many instances are loaded, including natural objects.

Nice information, thank you. I just checked, writing down my observations bellow-
1. No fps drop, stable 120 fps, near my base and Black forest junction, instances 11200-11300, while moving to this place from my base, instances dropped to 8000 from 12000-13000 and then climbed back slowly.

2. At the fps drop areas near base, inside base, instances are around 12000-13000, instances are highest near my portals (around 12). Remember, there was no fps drops or any kind of issues before I started making the mega structure.

3. When moving around the said structure and base area, while the instances aren't changing that much, the fps drops and then climbs back, like dropping to 30s and then climbing back to 40s-50s. Instances aren't changing drastically, always 12600-13400 ranges.

Would like to hear your feedback.

Just checked, it's night time and the area where no fps drop as mentioned in 1st point, instances increased to 13300-13500 but no fps issue.

The black forest itself would be adding a lot of instances because of all the plants. Typically people will look for an area with low instances if they're going to build a veey large structure, like finding a small island and flattening it.

Did you use a mod to flatten the ground? Some mods use the old terrain modification system which applies every change one at a time when loading it in - this leads to a high instance count and an fps drop when approaching the area.
Add -console to steam launch settings then press F5 and type optterrain while standing in the middle of your base.

No mods been used, I like to play vanilla. I used debugmode to fly around so that I can build properly when building high and terraforming some of sea shore areas.
