These snapping points are making me mad.
I just do not get it, I have seen some really cool builds. Plus I am by far the best builder in the
world, but want to kind of make a cool base. Watched some vids of building tips, and so many of them are you want this there but game will not let you so you have to make snapping point and then delete the snapping point.

I am not even making a base, its just a little camp spot for ore I mined, brought it down by ocean, want to go home build a boat, sail to it go get it. But this on corner will not work.

It puts it so close, but its is always lower then rest of roof by just a bit, I have seen where it fits perfect, but for whatever reason it just will not let me build it there. I do not know why.

So I figure I need to make the right snapping point for it for some reason, so it will be in right spot, then delete snapping point. It makes no sense. if I can put a snapping point then delete it, and it still is not in red. Please just let me put it where I want.

Sorry for rant but I have wasted over an hour trying to get this one corner roof spot trying to go exactly where I want, and every time. Its perfect it will not let me place it. Because game does not see a snapping point. I really just do not know why, I had to fix one corner, with same issue, and I am not sure exactly what I did but got it. I just making me swear word mad right now that I can not move this corner roof up like a hair for some reason. It always puts it lower. Even though was are level.

Again sorry for rant I just needed to vent.

q and e cycle through snapping points if that helps.

I assume the OP was going for "I am by no means the best builder in the world."

I guess you are trying to repair an existing house? Yeah, these snapping points do not match.

You can just ignore it (like I do), or build something from scratch, where you don't run into this issue. And, yes, like @Skuzzlebutt wrote, "Q" and "E" cycle through the different snapping points.

Building in Valheim is ace. I'm absolutely loving it, and once you got the hang on how to get to the right snapping point, I guess you might like it to. ;)

It can get confusing when there are multiple points to snap very close together. It can be tricky to aim at the right one then.

Also, sometimes (roofs especially) look like they don't fit exactly until you actually place them. And if I remember correctly the inner corner of the 26° straw roof does not fit perfectly on the surface. But from below it fits perfect.

Building needs a bit of practice, but it is really fun once you learnt it.

Well if he's in a single player mode, technically he is the best builder in the world.

Yeah I have done that tried different spots, and it is so close but every time I put it down, it is just a hair lower then rest of roof, I do not get it. I just need it to go up a hair.

It should of been by no means am I the best builder in the world, but I like your point I am in single player. So, yes I guess I am the best builder in the world.

Roofing is perhaps the hardest part of building. Especially anything over two wall pieces high, second story or no.

I've always found building scaffolding helps since you stand right next to it. . .but that can be just as tedious as arguing with it from the ground.

Thanks for all the replies that tried to help me.

But I figured it out put a tiny one meter beam inside, and it gave me the snapping point I needed, to get corner level with rest of roof. Then deleted the one meter beam.

See I am the best builder in the world.

you can totally build a janky setup, so long as it isn't too tall, or anything, or if you wanted to adorn the sides of your base with odd little unsnapped areas

My first crafting table is always built in front of a large tree, with a super-janky roof that doesn't snap together, and some side walls. Then I expand just a little bit to add my bed and a fire.

I've spent so much time cussing at this game for making the snapping and building system so ridiculous at time, I've found that a lot of pain can be avoided with effective and efficient framing. Even on larger structures before doing anything. make an even, level foundation which to build from, you do this by placing a single post where you want your origin level to be, and branching out using beams from this post to make the outline of your building, where you can then evenly build your walls. there's almost always some kind of overlap or slight jank to the builds you create, it's just a matter of trial and error, you'll get better at valheim's building with persistence. i apologize if my written explanation doesnt help or isn't very clear, i hope you remedy the issue you are having and continue to enjoy the game. this also works with angled posts, you just have to make sure everything is originating from posts and beams that are the desired level. if you have a beam placed slightly differently on one half of your building relative to the other it's detrimental to the integrity & moreso the aesthetic once you get to the point of roofing.

lol as some one who has put in multiple thousands of hrs, albeit not for a year or so i 100% agree especially if you're trying to perfect something but even if not snap points can be a nightmare, running out of stamina and unable to move how you want can also be a nightmare while building

you might of been getting stuck on an adjacent snap point or you werent on the exact right spot it wanted you to be lol, or your character was in a bad position for where you wanted to attach it, something in the way that was not letting it sit right, however i 100% agree in general there are lot of silly things i was trying to put a bunch of stone pieces together to make a smooth surface because i found i was able to on a few pieces, after many hrs ive discovered im never going to get it how i want, there are visible lines all over the place and it ruins the look i was going for.

and trying to get in the exact right position to get a snap point, only to accidentally move past it and miss it trying to get again for 10min is very frustrating, and can make something super enjoyable into a painful experience or like you said something just doesnt look or want to sit right, or keeps going to another snap point last time i was on they had improved it somewhat from launch and when i was spending the majority of the time building pre mistlands and i appreciate them working on it, maybe its fixed even more now idk

i absolutely love the building aspect I have a vision of what i want and for the most part feel i can get there, but theres lots of room for improvement, glad they have the mods and console commands to make it a bit easier if you're all about building.

anyway glhf hope you enjoy the game at least 10% of the amount i do
