1. Turn off Cloud saving.
2. Go here: C:\Users\me\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds and make a back-up of everything.
3. Delete or rename the yourworldname.db and yourworldname.fwl files. Rename the yourworldname.db.old and yourworldname.fwl.old files to yourworldname.db and yourworldname.fwl.
4. Start the game up and load into the world. See if that did the trick.
So far, no save issues on a dedicated server. I also make periodic back-ups of our world saves.
The following is how I did it. Note that I will use "Server PC" to denote where the dedicated server is and "Game PC" to denote your own computer where you play games from.
0. Connect the Server PC to the network via a LAN cable. I connected the server directly to my Telus modem.
1. Log into your router or modem, and locate Port Forwarding. It's usually under Firewall. Port forward ports 2456, 2457, and 2458 for both TCP and UDP with that of your internal IP address. You can find your internal IP address for your Server PC by going to PowerShell or CMD and type in IPConfig. Your internal IP is the IPV4 address.
2. With the Server PC, install Steam on it. Then login with your account.
3. In the Steam launcher for your Server PC, locate Valheim Dedicated Server. It might be under Tools instead of Games. Install it.
4. Go to where you installed the Valheim server app. Create a start.txt file and rename it to start.bat. Right click the start.bat file and edit it using notepad. Enter the following:
@echo off
set SteamAppId=892970
echo "Starting server PRESS CTRL-C to exit"
valheim_server -nographics -batchmode -name "Any Name" -port 2457 -world "TheNameOfYourWorldFileWithoutExtension" -password "ThePASSWORDtoYourServer"
5. Save that file and quit notepad. Right click the start.bat file and Create a Shortcut to the desktop. Close everything.
6. From your Game PC, launch Valheim, and at the Select World window, click "New", and check the "Start Server" box. Enter the same password and worldfilename you put in step #4. Start that game once and logout.
7. Go to C:\Users\me\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds in your Game PC and copy the world files (FWL and DB). Then paste them into the same location for the Server PC.
8. You might need to add Valheim server app to the firewall allow apps. Then run start.bat on the Server PC desktop.
9. To connect to the server, click the Join Game tab, and click Join IP.
If you're playing locally, type in your IPV4 address followed by the port like this: 192.168.1.67:2457
If your partner is playing remotely, they will type in your external IP (you can check this on Google by typing: my ip) followed by the port. Eg: 123.456.789.11:2457
10. Enter the server password and now you can play.
----
Note, that I normally access my Server PC via RDP (Remote Desktop), so I don't need a 2nd monitor to see what's going on with the server.
If you want a more visual guide, just go to Youtube to look this information up.
The buildings that I built and resources I collected however, gone the way of Roanoke. Anyway I can get those hours, days, weeks back?
