Private Dedicated Server (home/family use, not public)

My husband recently used VirtualBox and Ubuntu Linux to create a private server that family can use for at home play, without someone having to be the game host and playing at the same time. He's posted his set-up, instructions, and files on GitHub to share with anyone who's interested. We've had a great time with it so far. Yeah, that's very helpful. I know you *can* run a Linux server but without previous steamcmd experience I'd have no idea where to start.

Why VirtualBox though? Valheim runs on Linux native. You can run the server from Linux or windows directly, no? Why put it on a virtual machine?

For us, we wanted to use Linux (personal preference) for the server, but we don't have a computer that is solely running Linux. We also wanted to be able to shut down, destroy, rebuild, etc., the server should we decide to and not have it affect the computer running it in any way. It really was a matter of convenience, and in the end it's worked really well for us so I wanted to share with any who would be interested.

The thing about Linux is it can be lightweight enough to run on emulation without *feeling* like something running on emulation. Valheim's server is pretty low impact too, even with serverside sim running.
