Whats your solo difficulty setting?
I learned the basics with a few gimped difficulty settings. I'm going to restart with something closer to normal, but probably not hardcore.
Just wondered what YOUR solo world difficulty settings are?

this is getting seriously off topic.

More back to the actual point of the conversation:

I just go with normal settings and adjust from there if need be. So far, no adjustments needed. It's been a pretty solid experience straight through development so far. I've enjoyed the challenge as presented.

no portal no map is like shooting yourself in the foot.

But some people asked and they made it for minority of customers.

Normal settings are the best. I did my current playthrough with no maps / portals, until Moder, after over 100 hours, but then I caved and enabled them. Seeing a map of the world for the first time, after you've spent so much time in is very cool, and using portals feels more earned.

But play no ore portal like default

When I said gameplay breaking: for instance no-map breaks the merchants, which become basically RNG with the size of the world (no fishing, no sledge hammer, etc). Not to mention the no-map vegvisir is just some game design straight out of an horse a**: either the vegvisir, Hildir quest direction mechanics is seriously improved (well something has to be done), or the no-map option should be a goner. (The lore stone giving you the ultimate hint on how to find spawns of forsakens is RARE).

I disagree on this a bit. I would say that the merchants were not designed with no-map in mind, but there are easy workarounds, such as enabling map temporarily, or glancing at the map generator. It's not ideal, but it is not game ending.

I do feel, though, that Ashlands is no-portal breaking.

The one solution that I've thought of that might be workable is to have a single portal that acts as a virtual ship, that links from some fixed "dock" in Ashlands to a nearby island.

That doesn't solve the other problem that I seem to be getting into, which is constantly relying on hopping through the portal with half of Ashlands on my ash! That's a problem I can deal with, though. If I know there's no portal to save my ash, I'll be more careful. :-)

Full easy for mistlands.

That biome isn't enjoyable for me, nothing good about it. To much time wasting otherwise. Already to much time wasting as I don't know where the ♥♥♥♥ I am wandering as I can't see ♥♥♥♥.

This is not what some vocal people on those forums said.

They said the gameplay intended by _devs_ is no-portal. I am not so sure about no-map as it is utterly broken. To worsen things: valheim masochist streamers usually have no-map, but have portals.

There is one team of streamers though, playing no-portal/no-map, but it seems they went very easy on the other modifiers and most of all, they play online multiplayer, not solo. They share the Grind and Burden.

Everything on default except enemy aggression on hard.

When running solo, I go with;

No Map (add Compass mod)
0.5 resources (add Plant Everything mod)
No Raids (add Azumatt's Better Wards mod)
Hard difficulty (add Epic Loot + Better Trader)
Lowest Death Penalty -or- permadeath

I used to do teleport everything, but since the Ashlands portal allows for this now I don't worry about it.

The reason to challenge myself is that I have cleared vanilla on solo play 3 times, then cleared on hosted vanilla, then cleared on hosted modded.

I got tired of standard trench-base + EZ mode gameplay. :steamsalty:

I like elaborate base designs without needing a trench, so I can admire my work. I like having one super-toon who has all the stats of all time with minimal losses, or alternatively I like to risk it all with just some veeb who gets reset with death.

Oh, and since weebs are people who wish they were japanese anime characters, maybe veebs will catch as people who wish they were viking. :steammocking:

Everything on standard, except for the base raids. Those I set to almost never. They still happen, so I still need to build the base in a way that it can withstand trouble, but without it becoming a major annoyance.

You can play the very-spread-base meta: you don't have more than 2 player base components per 40m. It is ofc a annoyance, but less than having to deal with a base raid almost every 11 minutes at the highest raid settings (66% every 11 minutes): I got a base raid only when I made a mistake (usually I forgot to dismantle the camp fire or the workbench). Ofc, later in the game, other types of raids will happen.

Most of all, they have to _properly_ test and balance the various sets of settings they propose to the players.

So many games have their devs put some fancy or hard modes which were never tested/balanced (I have a strong feeling that immersive+ was never tested/balanced by the devs, who knows...).

I Disagree. It's an option , you can use it or not it's up to you. Can be changed at any time.

And also you assume there was no testing.

"I have a strong feeling" is not "assuming". It is suspicion.
