raids are good in no map no portal. drops come to you.
What drops? Maybe once or twice, very early game I cared about the drops from a raid, but that is extremely rare, at least for me.
Mostly I either have a field of sparklies that I have to clean up and then have to dump stuff that I will likely never use in a chest that I don't have enough of.
After the first troll I completed and maxed the troll set without having to hunt any. The gold dropped by the trolls paid for the thunderstone for the obliterator that I used to dispose of the other surplus stuff that also saved me the time I usually waste chopping trees to feed the kiln. Win/win as far as I was concerned.
But , Most things will kill us in 1 or 2 hits in ashland. So , i load previous .old save instead of recovering tomb . My way of cheating and keeping it challenging
It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that after luring the boss out of my base and killing it the raid was not officially over so the boss instantly respawned at my base.
When I got the same raid the very next raid I switched raids off to clear it.
Getting raided by a boss like that is ok I suppose but bosses should not respawn during the same raid if you kill them.
I also have a separate world for farming some materials because I don't want to discover all of my main world to allow for any potential future updates to work. On that world I have combat as very hard so there is some potential price to pay when using that world. I allow world hopping from my mainbase to the mainbase on that world, not otherwise.
Lately, since Mistlands, I have decided to put Mistlands on easy, and leave the rest of the world on default. I'm probably getting too old for Mistlands on default.
I also have started a world on hardcore, just for sh*ts and giggles. I'm still in the Meadows, and I've been playing rather rarely, but I will continue on it, and see, how far I can get.
I actually also did this, and someone commented to me that "if you just prepare you won't die." Yes. I know. But it's just not even a punishment losing everything when dying, it's just annoying doing a naked run into a probably hostile place to get your stuff back. Keeping your gear at least gets you back into the game while still needing to get your items back that werent equiped.
My settings now are:
- combat normal
- death penalty casual
- resources x3
- raids normal
- portals normal
For me that keeps the essence of the game and keeps things well balanced whilst removing the grindy bits.
zero.
This is the provided [immersive+] difficulty mode (very probably untested and unbalanced).
A difficulty mode should not be provided if not properly tested and balanced in runs from start to finish, same for modifiers which are clearly against now core gameplay elements... it seems portals are mandadory now, due to ashlands entry/exit gameplay, then the no-portal modifier should be removed, and I have doubts on the no-map modifier since the merchants are basically RNG without a map.
