made 1 world with combat set to very hard after hildir released. rest unchanged.
made 1 more world with no map and no portals and hard combat end of last year.
So the less time i spend sailing and more time i spend base building, farming and exploring the better.
Right now I think i have everything on default exepct portal restrictions off and death penalty on lowest to reduce grinding for extra weapons/armor. And finally raids off since I like to separate the comfy building/farming side of the game with the tense combat/exploration side. 2 trolls showing up out of nowhere while im in the middle of building really takes me out of it. Not like they pose any real threat anyway since you respawn right back in your base.
I play on either normal or hard combat, and either 1x or 3x resources. Everything else I leave on default.
x0.5 drops, no map, no portal, raid roll every 11 minutes at 66%, etc.
Masochist.
But I am not a sadistic dev who put this set of untested settings in the game.
Wait... THEY PUT THAT IN THE GAME?????
I leave difficulty "normal" but turn it down one click when I get to the Mistlands. I don't like the heavy armor movement penalty ... I'd rather run the Mistlands in the Fenris set and turning down the difficulty just a tad lets me do that. Plus the Queen has an obscene number of hitpoints and it's such a slog solo.
Death penalty is set to "casual" so I can keep my equipped gear. It's just annoying to lose everything and then die multiple more times trying to recover it.
Portals set to transport metal. Personal preference ... I feel the game flows better by being able to bring materials back a little each trip versus mining everything and sailing it all home in one load.
For major builds I will log out, toggle passive mobs and turn off raids so I won't get pestered while I terraform, build, etc. ... then change everything back to resume "playing" the game.
So many games have their devs put some fancy or hard modes which were never tested/balanced (I have a strong feeling that immersive+ was never tested/balanced by the devs, who knows...).
My latest (Ashlands playthrough) world was changed to normal everything after reaching Ashlands and realizing that no-portal is not really viable. No-map and hard combat were just too much for learning the biome initially, but I would probably turn them back on now.
I'm not really playing now, though, since I don't find having to use portals enjoyable. Maybe I (or someone else) will figure out a way to reasonably not use portals in Ashlands, and I'll get motivated again..
What does "balanced" mean in this context? What additional parameters would they tweak to balance it that you can't already adjust?
I agree that it goes too far in many aspects, which is why I don't play it, but isn't that what you want? Shouldn't all volume controls go up to 11? :-)
You can play it without portals, but it's not really practical. Just getting in and out is terribly tedious.
