Ocean Biome???
Hello Everyone, back when Valheim was initially released the devs were talking about a possible ocean biome. With Ashlands being on the verge of release, does anyone know if they have mentioned anything about the next biome and/or an ocean biome?

I guess we won't get anything new for it. But tbf I already enjoy sailing my boat here, looking around and hunting the serpents. Would be neat if they added some Jormungandr/Nidhogg-scale beastie as a boss for it, but not expecting that.

Valheim 2 will have underwater diving . . Trust me.

would be absolutely terrible since trying to survive on the boats is not a very fun experience.

im speaking from experience being attacked by that "Mistland giant blob", trying to survive the attack is impossible with how undurable longships is compared to it

Mostly dumped due to practicality problems- you cant add a whole biomes' worth of stuff in an environment that newbies may and indeed are expected to go rafting on. So they add what they can that wont screw over newbies. Their only real chances to add new ocean biome stuff are ashlands and frozen north, and they'd have to add aquatic zone bounderies to really do it, and it would dilute the themes of ashlands and frozen north if the waters around them were a seperate full biome. So its extremely unlikely to happen. Best we can really hope for is a better graduation of fish recipes.

That is not a valid point about newbies, the games code can limit mobs and PoI's spawning by distance to the centre (start temple).

I just wish ocean would actually be always ocean. So often your suddenly in plains biome while in the middle of an ocean which potentially means superfog and instantly being blind, or darkforest ect. I hope they make it that ocean is ocean and nothing else.

they never said that. dont parrot what some other dude wrote somewhere that has only watched the most recent video.

the devs literally talked about what to do with the ocean in another recent video. but they never said anything about SCRAPPING it.

Ashlands brings a new sea serpent but beyond that is pure speculation. There have been many good suggestions for underwater dungeons, fuling or draugr pirate ships and certainly an improved long ship but again it is pure speculation. IGS might implement some of these in a minor update between Ashlands and Deep North. They seemed to be testing the waters with Hildir but may decide to not implement new quests and leave those to mods or DLC developers later.

Would love to see fuling pirate ships and draugr "ghost karves" (don't see that being canon with draugr being blind and brainless)

I don't know what else they could add to make the open ocean more of a biome that players want to linger in and explore more of for the sake of it. I'd like to see the danger increase on the open ocean the further out a player gets. Rewards exploration and keeping close to known coasts, but punish sailing blindly into the outer regions.

Sailing skills should be put to the test with landings and combat/evasion, also gives more weight to moder buff

-Black forest doesn't need its coasts to be more risk than what trolls provide

-Swamp could use some coastal fear besides wraiths, if no ships then buff leech damage to boats a bit perhaps? I know blobs can jump into boats but that's seemed rare to me.

-Mountains of course are a moot point here

-Plains could use that spice, it's scary to have a deathsquito or two give chase, but it's not a threat some ways past the ocean

-Mistlands Dverger ships would be interesting, but feeling like our viking boats would need some sort of armor upgrade, or at least don't spawn fire mages on their ships
Gjall and seekers do great with the coastal fear factor and oh ♥♥♥♥ we're doomed moments
Fire damage should absolutely wreck our wooden boats, but maybe possible to give boats the wet debuff? (it'd be a buff against fire in rainy weather)

-Ashlands, I'm digging the big bone serpent, also would love to be able to look up for incoming meteors and hopefully navigate away, sorta like sea of thieves' volcano area. Maybe patches of boiling water near lava flows? (Idk if that would play well with the code)
Gonna have to see about how far the fallen valkyrie will fly out to sea, or the leaper undead sorta like a blob landing in your boat

Just wanted to throw in, read on Reddit long time ago that maybe we would get seals in the deep north, and this person speculated that vikings wore sealskins on ocean treks as waterproofed garments.

Reducing the wet debuff timer (not wet immunity imo) would be pretty neat, especially if wet+freezing is going to be a thing. Yes I realize I am advocating seal clubbing, but this is a video game where we strip the land of its goods to serve on Odin's warpath. The seals will provide.

Ashlands won't be released until late June.
Don't think there needs to be too much done with the Ocean, add enemy ships, maybe some more hostile enemy variety or if there would be tougher enemies/bosses, just make them spawn in the outer edge of the world.

I remember one of the devs some time ago said that 'Ocean was almost done but was rough and needed polishing'.

There is a light leak about it releasing by the end of March.
