Official Valheim Servers.
This notion has been occupying my thoughts lately. Ponder the potential financial gains Irongate could amass by establishing sanctioned Valheim servers that come with a price tag.
While I acknowledge that this scenario is highly improbable and akin to a personal aspiration, envisioning Valheim with public servers akin to those found in World of Warcraft, for instance, sparks enthusiasm within me. I would willingly commit $20 or possibly more each month for such a service. My concern with private servers stems from the prevalence of rampant cheating; thus, I believe they should be sustained and overseen by legitimate administrators on the Irongate payroll. Nonetheless, I must reiterate that this remains nothing more than a cherished reverie.

However, advanced settings for server owners are planned for the future. You can find the related Megathread here.

I've added this thread to the Popular Community Suggestions so it's more obvious now.

Have a nice day!

They have like 8 people working on the game, can barely deliver 2 updates a year and now you want them to administer servers?

Completely unrealistic.

Best case scenario they partner with a company that already does server rentals just to put the "official irongate" label on it and increase the markup.

Multiplayer is fine as it is. This is a coop game, not mmo. Play with your friends and self organize. If you have no friends just take a chance on the discord. Sometimes you find bozos, sometimes great folks. It's called life. There isn't always a nanny around to make sure nobody is mean to you.

That's why I referred to it as a dream. The team working on this game consists of more than just 8 individuals. I don't intend to come across as criticizing your level of support, but I genuinely question your familiarity with the subject. Money holds significant influence. Moreover, engaging in this conversation is simply a time-wasting activity for me as I await Hildir's quest update. It holds no significance.

You started the thread buddy.

Clearly, you entirely misunderstood the essence of the thread's topic.

I suppose they could set up a prefab Valheim server service with Amazon Web Services that streamlines the setting up and administration of a Valheim server. Though you would still have to navigate AWS to use any of that.
Not sure if other cloud platforms offer similar possibilities.

Players will cheat. Whether its on official servers or private servers.

So there's that.
Twinkies Aug 20, 2023 @ 11:42am
Setting up our own server immediately is an option, but the challenge I foresee is locating players who share a deep level of involvement like myself and are willing to commit substantial time to the game. Perhaps when Hildir's quest is released, we can revisit this conversation and establish a dedicated server on our own. Wishing you a wonderful day!

Multiplayer is not fine how it is.

I do not want to self organize.

I do not use Discord.

Its not called life, its a video game. I do real life in real life. I do not do it in video games.

So the only thing correct about your rant is that this is a coop game and not an MMO.

The last part about the nanny was just a personal poke at the OP. Your posts usually do not stoop to this level. I figure your just having a bad day.

Then play something else.

Playing a video game is part of life. Even more so when it's multi. You're playing with real people. Some will be nice, some will cheat, some will scam you, others will help.

I for one appreciate that irongate delivered a sandbox for multi. They're not trying to create boring, liveless over moderated servers. They give people the tools and let them figure it out.

I liked my nanny comment.

Indeed, that's a valid point. I've never taken issue with facing defeat, as long as it was a fair contest. Interestingly, I don't find myself bothered by griefers either. Witnessing the destruction of one's town is a genuine aspect of the game. What I envision is a scenario where everyone begins the same, and the journey to attain desired items is achieved through the grind.
The game has serious potential to become a highly acclaimed strategy game. Players could forge alliances and select their adversaries according to their preferences. One problem I've noticed revolves around the difficulty of locating fellow players to engage with. This is precisely why I prefer the idea of consistently operational official servers.

I am 99% sure the devs are already planning what you are asking for..... to an extent. Since it is early access we often debate changes to the game that are already planned. The devs need the time to finish multiplayer. It currently is not how they intend it to be. They will make the changes before it is out of early access. Even though I can not be sure about IronGate official servers (a great idea by the way. I would also pay extra for the service) I am sure they are going to give the server owner more control over what is and is not allowed on the server like not letting players enter with a character that wasnt created on that server. Server side characters as an option is already planned, they just need the time to implement it. That simple change will will help greatly with the frustrations we seem to share.

Indeed, the nanny comment was a pleasant addition. Nevertheless, does anyone really refer to a referee or an umpire as a nanny?
Regardless, it appears that you've emerged victorious in this skirmish for the time being. As Munin pointed out, it's likely that Valheim will never evolve into an MMORPG. Well, such is life.
Shifting to a more cheerful topic, I trust that everyone is enjoying the latest update. Wishing you all a wonderful day and a stay cool!

Official Servers
Is there plans to have Open World Servers for players to join each other that are always up and not hosted?
