Stability questions
Im building a fort in the mistlands, and the central tower is a block of marble from the ground, maybe 22-24 units up. Im trying to make arches to make the top level bigger, (central tower, add a floor tile around the center using arches) but they keep breaking, but in some place and not others.

Any thoughts? Or is this just some build height limit thing i never encountered before

marble by itself has a height limit of 18m from last ground contact (blue color) any higher needs metal support (ironwoodbeam/flametal beam/ironcagewall/dvergrmetal wall all have the same support which is the highest in the game currently) with metal support the max increases to 28m for marble and stone. its legitly not possible to exceed this without useing something like a tree for example.

hmm...well i planned to coat it in the copper because it looks nice either way. Thank you.

you can hide the copper walls inside the marble to preserve the look aswell while still getting the stability boost.

Copper grating also looks great on normal stone. We have an eitr fireplace done in stone with a copper inner lining and iron outer lining. Tried with the iron inside since it is also immune to the eitr damage, but the shine from the copper looked so much better lit up by the green lighting. Nice to not hide away that beautiful eitr.

you can also raise a terrain spike and put marble around it, embedded into it, and that lifts your ground floor blue rated support by however many more tiles you can raise the spike. My biggest castle (old rock, before black marble) was built by cutting to the ground level (the place you can't dig any deeper) and then going out in about a 8 tile radius and raising terrain to the max height in a ring. The ring was the buried in rock walls and used to support the inner, high-rise portion using mostly iron gates, cage parts, and occasional slanted ironwood beams. In the pic below, the first ring of iron cage walls is still 'ground'.

the new ashlands stone lets you do some fancy arched roofs and general arches, and its pretty strong stuff.

I have seen mods that will let you bypass this (and frankly a bit puzzled why the devs haven't considered this an option) but if you really want to keep it vanilla, you can use the terrain, and later you get another tool to help you build higher. The build in the screenshot have no additional support other than the terrain.
