I usually just run around the Ashlands fort ramparts and drop trolls till everything dies, then clean up any mobs that are left. The sheer devastation the trolls cause is amazing.
But all levels of trollstav summon 2. 1, 2 and 3, all summon 2. Summoned trolls have no connection to blood magic, you don't improve bloody magic by summoning them or from their kills, nor will a shield extend to the trolls.
I can see no reason to upgrade a trollstav, it gives nothing.
it's stupid on their part. I upgraded it in case, but according to wiki there's nothing , just block armor and duration
unfortunate they haven't tied the trollstav to bloodmagic enough to have a similar feel to the dead raiser. Missed opp. but maybe they fix this soon or change it up with deep north and 1.0
Also the quality lvl not summoning more trolls is just pure foolishness? clearly the dead raiser summons more with lvl... its a great mechanic... I'm just guessing they felt it was too OP with scaling trolls and more of them.. but lets b real.. consistency is everything in gaming. this is just baffling and stupid to change blood staff mechanics on the 2nd itm set, when the first tier works pretty well (other than the skeles being kinda wonky with AI). Was also hoping trolls would be better for this (seems like they are from what im hearing)
Testing soon for myself but yikers
the summoned trolls do NOT scale with blood magic at all. they always have the same dmg and the same HP.
summoning them inside fortresses is dangerous. they can break the fortesss chests and if thier contains despawn youre ♥♥♥♥♥♥. only do this if youre ready to loot right away afterwards.
overall they are kinda fun to use for mineing copper nodes as the summoned meteor will just shatter most of the node. plus you can use them to wreck dvergr bases without any kind of hostility as the troll itself isnt considered a player attack by the dvergr. so they will fight it but not you.
but the troll is actually just mainly a big distraction to tank attacks. it has 2000 hp which is more than any regular creature in the entire game and they resist blunt dmg aswell.
wierdly enough they are immune to spirit dmg which makes no sense as they are clearly undead. probaly an oversight.
thier dmg however is really low for a ashlands tier summon. its nearly the same as a regular troll in terms of dmg output.
they are basically meant as giant distraction tools to divert enemy attention away from the player.
cool addition overall but sole reason to level blood magic remains the staff of protection for now. the dead raiser is just unpractical as the skeletons absolutly suck at keeping up with a runnning and jumping player.
