I completed everything in solo, except Fader and side quest at "mysterious ruins".
Not without reloading saves many times I confess. There's a limit in masochism and losing gear and skills. that 15 fps near fortresses was a perfect excuse
I haven't played Ashlands yet, because I've started a completely new map/char for it.
But I can't imagine that you can't solo the content.
Though I haven't played it yet, I know Ashlands is supposed to be a boss biome.
As if the whole continent should be a boss level.
So I assume you should forget about usual approaches from previous biomes and prepare for a continuous fight.
Personally, at least, I would very much welcome this change for the final levels of the game and am looking forward to it. I was hoping that you would finally be forced to fight for a longer time and a lot more opponents (unlike Mistlands).
The attacks on fuling villages were one of my favourite experiences on the first playthrough and I thought it was a shame that the game was over after that and Mistlands haven't brought this back - I have high hopes for real war on this continent.
Until Plains (and first time swamps maybe), the game was a walk in the park and Mistlands isn't really difficult either - admittedly the queen is at least the first challenging boss for solo/melee.
Once you have mastered the combat system and the parry/dodge mechanics, you will have a much easier time - especially in full gear/food (with a few exceptions of some 1/2-star entities in higher biomes). Don't forget to learn "when to" use bonemass as a melee fighter.
Always stay rested.
When entering a new biome, leave during night till you have geared up.
If you need inspiration for high-level melee/solo-play, check out the videos from “Sitting Forgetting”:

I haven't watched his Ashland-Vids now to avoid most of the spoilers, but I'm sure he hasn't problems at all. Just take a look.
demolisher for mixed crowds. +bonemass for panic mode.
shock dual axes for unstarred morgens and general trash.
spear and parry for valkyrie, asksvin. short throw after parry.
anything for turkeys.
vine dual axes for boss.
you can do it! lots of solo melee on my channel with various weapons and enemies, check it out if you are interested.

Let me take a moment to thank you for your speer throw over the leg of the Seeker soldier. Made my life with 2 star soldiers a lot easier back then. Good work.
thank you sir
Always be rested. everytime. If there's one thing i've learned it's to be well prepared or at least to do everything possible to be prepared. Unforeseeable things happen anyway, but that's part of the game.
I have already seen one or two videos of @SittingForgetting including "Ashlands storm at night" or something similar. Was a recommendation from YouTube.
What should i say?! Madness. He has practiced :)
So if you have already a good skill you don't want to lose it again so quickly i understand that. So i have turned the death penalty to a minimum.
Congrats. I haven't met anyone yet just a one star. Later i will also try to tame them.
false claims again.
tame the 1 star. you dont wanna find 2 x 2stars. they are stupid rare on defaults. you just need 1. then you wait for that quality 3 egg to get a 2nd 2 star. then get rid of the 1 star.
but the tameing aint needed to play the biome to begin with. its just another thing you CAN do. you can also breed 50 of them and just watch them bully the boss for you.
