Map Generation Query
Has Map generation been altered at all within Ashlands?

The reason I ask the above, is that I've just returned to Valheim to play the new update; As with all updates, I like to start Fresh... with a fresh character and a Random seed...

My starting Island seems HUGE compared to prior versions (with multiple playthroughs on each update since launch).

I'm just curious if this is a Map generation tweak that's causing all starter islands to be Alot larger than before, or if I've just landed on a "Funky" random map seed.

Has anyone else noticed a Much larger central/starting island within Ashlands?

Probably just coincidence. What has changed is mostly around ashlands and deep north where adjacent biomes have submerged.

The update has forced the creation of some new ocean channels but the overall shape of the underlying islands and mountains is unchanged. Huge starting island seeds have always been a thing.

ive seen starter islands where you could walk from spawn point all the way to the ashlands (before the update) or deep north (before update), at most swimming a modest river or small gap to do so. I haven't seen a starter so small its just meadows (no forest) and too small to survive/succeed, most are a goodly sized chunk with at least forest on it.

But its all random. The new maps (ashlands) seems to ensure a wide gap between ashlands and normal biomes and from what we saw of the warnings etc they did this by lowering the terrain below sea level in a band across the world (north too?). Otherwise its more or less the same old things.

Well, it's not *that* random. The terrain generation math they're using effectively cuts a circle out of a larger predetermined heightmap so if you spot a familiar island or mountain you can know the whole layout from there.

Rivers and biomes are fully random tho.
