Can't deconstruct boats???
Is anyone else having issues deconstruct boats?
Was this added in the ashlands update? I am able to deconstruct almost anything I build except any boats and rafts. My friend also tried to do the same but he wasn't able too either.
The boat is close to the shore or literally on the shore and still nothing.

you never could. you remember wrong.

in order to get boat materials back whip out your weapon and smash it till it breaks. be wary that the nails and stuff SINK so do it in non deep water.

You can destroy your boat with any weapon. The higher damage your weapon is the faster you can destroy it. For best results, especially if you are in deeper water, destroy your boat standing directly next to the mast and you instantly collect all materials and none will sink if you have enough room in your inventory.

Maybe you're right. It's been a year since I played :steamsad:

Same rule goes for pull carts.

Remember: you can only destroy boat/wagon if they are at max health. IF they are already damaged then you need to repair then break. I know stupid programming...

After doing my time the hard way all the way thorough the mistlands, I gave in and set my world to build for free mode. The ability to just put a boat or portal down has been more beneficial than not needing 1000000000 bars of iron for supports (this is why I did it, I like to build), and I didn't think about that or expect it. But now, I just abandon and create boats carelessly ... and that has been so much nicer than spending 2 min breaking them up every time I want to portage, explore, drydock, etc.

What? Not only is that not the case, how would they even code that? They would have to record where every bit of damage came from on a boat to ensure that's the case. If one of those was due to the boat hitting a rock, what happens?

What @Faceplant8 wrote. Additionally, if your boat gets destroyed by any means and the materials don't sink, you can pick them up again to reconstruct your boat any time.

drive boat on land then set it on fire.

Every couple months or so someone makes a post about how you can "no longer" deconstruct boats. It's true that you never could. I always imagined it to be a safety feature.
