this is false math wise simply.
there is no overall best weapon currently.
but the most universal useful weapon is the bow simply.
Keep in mind this isn't a game of lateral upgrades. It's a game of stages. Whatever the highest stage you are in, those are the best weapons. Right now the highest stage is Mistlands so those are the best weapons. When Ashlands comes out, the weapons there will be the best.
I suppose I should have asked - What's your favorite weapon and why?
I was actually hoping to get some discussion going on the merits of various weapon types.
The Fang Spear is extremely cost effective for that point in the game. Spear throwing in general is more versatile than some realize, try popping leeches with it sometime.
In group play, the utility weapons are also amazing. Dig a hole, harpoon an enemy and drag them in. Use the hoe to raise the ground beneath you to escape fulings.
your claim remains false.
elemental dmg is in generel better especially for the later enemies as they resist all phys dmg for the most or are flyers.
krom is SLOW as hell. its far from the best weapon. it can do strong single hits but well you can already oneshot seekers with the mistwalkers 2ndary attack aswell. so why deal with the slower animations on top of loseing the frost effect? ON TOP of loseing the shield parry bonus.
and anyone who says the crossbow is better than the bow has no idea how the math behind both works clearly.
youre looking at purely the numbers there and purely the numbers on single hits. not actual dps numbers. but dps is what matters if you wanna define "the best weapon" to begin with.
and thanks for the blatantly obivious and fully unneeded statement that the latest biome weapons are the strongest numbers wise. well no ♥♥♥♥ sherlock. who would have tought about that? that statement was a waste of words on your end. and also frostner exists. and is well. the best weapon in the plains and early mistlands for melee despite beeing mountain tier. but lets fully ignore that right?
the part about undead beeing weak to blunt is a common myth. skeletons are the only undead enemy type actually weak to blunt. rest is neutral. well technically growths are weak to it and are undead but both growths and skeletons have so little hp that it just doesnt matter that they are weak to blunt.
frostner is outclassed by mistwalker in every way currently even on blunt weak enemies. and bear in mind mistwalker will get to level 4 with ashlands. frostner is maxed.
mistwalkers base slash is over TWICE as high as frostners blunt. so even on a weak to blunt enemy frostner would do less dmg than mistwalker.
we also dont know if all ashlands enemies will be weak to frost. spirit is a given as its just logical given what they showed but they said recently they dont wanna follow the "all fire biome enemies are weak to frost principle" as it would make the biome too simple to counter.
best for me is simply the crossbow. It pretty much deals with everything well.
In melee, torn between 1h sword & 1h mace types. But which depends on what you are fighting... frostner is great for its slow effect but only dead take spirit damage which makes it generally weak while porcupine delivers pretty consistent damage. That leaves the nothing special but quite effective blackmetal sword as my third. Mistwalker is disappointing.
Blackmetal axe is surprisingly good for a tool.
Everything else does lower damage or is 2h. I don't care for 2h, as I love my shields.
Oh yea dude, Spears rock, I love them. And yea Fang Spear is actually very economical. Certainly not the Iron Spear for ten iron... xD
I never thought of that tactic with Fulings. Thankyou
