It will be something to tolerate the high temperatures in the ashland.

ashlands was specifically changed to not have border biomes, only water surrounds. also the new bone serpent. i am thinking the "gate keeping" effect of the ashlands wont be heat or hot ground. it will be related to entry via water.

Ya? Was that mentioned in one of their streams? It doesn't seem important enough to make it a boss drop.

biomes escalate in terms of their gate keeping. black forest, its really just the overall clogged density compared to meadows, a little harder to get around. and the mobs are worse.

swamps, permanent wet, shallow water, poison enemies.

mountains, freeze effect.

plains, mob difficulty, including mosquito, which reaches off shore and "gate keeps" you from going in too early.

mistlands, the mist wall.

ashlands = unknown, but it is confirmed that ashlands was modified to be surrounded only by water. and we are now getting only the second true water enemy in the game, an undead version of the serpent, i think just making landfall in the ashlands will be very difficult, to prevent you from going too early (like the other biomes) and i think it is possible that the queen's drop to help with this somehow. perhaps it will be some kind of bait or distraction, or a repellent, or an attack method against the bone serpents.

ashlands will also not stretch as far side to side around the circumference of the disk world, so, likely both deep north and ashlands will be pretty small and concentrated.

It will enable summoning of seekers that will then fight and probably die in battle

this was gonna be my guess. it would segue the player into the ashlands and finally give us another boat. if I remember correctly, there is an unused asset called "trader ship" in the code. it's always been there and will likely be a new ship for dealing with the new serpent.

In all seriousness, my dream of commanding a seeker army aside, it's probably a heat resistant thing construction related thing. Will the ashlands be like the mountains in terms of deadly environment? A necessary charm would actually suck btw, unless they decide to expand the inventory for equipped items.
