No trick, just keep sailing. Serpents can also spawn during the day, but all you can do is keep sailing.

at night and in a storm for the best chance. while sailing, look around a lot. the spawn trigger is visual most of the time.
I had a serpent run on one map. a long north/south stretch of ocean that had meadows and black forest all the way. I would just sail up and down it at night and when they spawned, just harpoon and drag them to an easy shore so you get the scales and trophies.

i bet i can easy kill it with mistland gear before it gets back into the water?
Yeah, as long as you have a fair bit of stamina.
If its just the food you want you can kill them in the sea with a bow, the meat floats, but the trophy at the very least sinks.

Actually, lure them close to the shore, get onto land and harpoon them at that point.

Makes it easier to drag them onto land, which makes it easier to kill them as well. And you won't loose the trophy is the water is too deep to recover items, as the window to pick it up is realy very tiny.

I've seen one follow my boat up on land all the while trying to eat my boat. I've also penned them up in the past. I keep a record of where I've seen them. No harpoon yet this time around but if all they want is to eat my boat- I'm pretty sure I can bait them into something I can lock with it.

I think I do more damage to my boat.

Make sure you are in the Ocean biome as well. Sailing near a coast that puts you into a non-Ocean biome will prevent the trigger.

Also sail around where there are Leviathans. I've always encounter them near them (during a storm at night of course).

there are plenty of hidden underwater biomes in middle of ocean, it won't spawn there. has to say ocean on map.

When you think in the middle of nowhere on ocean it should spawn, it cannot because of this

It's a matter of sailing right at sunset . Night is short , maybe 8 mins . I only encountered 1 per night or none while hunting for his trophy
