Yeah im waiting for it to come out so i can host it for my community. If anyone knows anyone with it id like to load it up and start optimizing things. You would also be welcome to join the dedicated server it will be on.

i still fail to see how this is an rpg just because of a linear map design. and why would i want a open world map to become linear aswell?

Questing. Exploring the awesome structures they've built. Curiosity. I didn't get the impression that the map being organised for individual play would limit someone to just the questing system, or that it would be only linnear, but that's fine with me also. My personal opinion is that Valheim is pretty linnear albeit in a big wide world and it's really limited in terms of POIs and the way the progression system works (someone put it so well but can't remember who) which is make a workbench make gear to defeat boss, get materials to make better workbench to make better gear to defeat next boss etc. Content wise beating boss after boss seems kinda lacking to me - Valheim could have had lesser objectives and more POIs to make exploration more worthwhile than simply grinding materials.

Look, your username is Nerevar so I know you can see the value in a well structured plot along the way (Morrowind reference). I confess that survival isn't my favourite genre, but I do find it kind of relaxing in shortish chunks.

there is no questing in this map. valheim has no quests by default. and they want to keep it modfree to let console users see it.

i choose that name because morrowind was and is still one of the only good true open world games out there. the story is just a neat extra in morrowind. the exploration is where its at. as that game had no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ leveled trash loot which they sadly keept pushing after that and defeated all point in exploration as youll always find the same boring random loot crap and artifacts became weak over the years.

morrowind had true freedom while also haveing some of the best "discover cool stuff" moments in gameing history armors that where rare in lore actually where rare in morrowind and only found in logical places. leveled loot ruined this entirely in later tes games.

modern games failed to recreate this solely because these devs dont understand how important handplaced loot is if you got a handmade map. otherwise your map is useless and may aswell be randomized one.

i fail to see how exploreing any of these citys they build will offer much to find aside asthetics. thats not something i play games for. and they cannot add new items without requireing extra mod data.

so in the end its more showing off thier building project meriits but i personally just cannot get impressed by bases/towns/castles made with commands. but atleast these guys seem to have actually made use of infinite resources and flying and not just build a basic house with it.

i wonder if the fps is stable inside these towns tough. no system in the world can handle 25k+ instances and remain stable fps wise.

Good points about Morrowind. The other thing Morrowind had was atmosphere and the way the lore, the exploration and the rare loot combined made it really special experience. I think that the sameness in Valheim, the lack of variety in the copy pasted repetitious settlements, really detracts from the atmosphere after a fairly short time. I guess my Valheim wishlist would be to add more stuff to explore - the idea of another biome or two that just repeat a few structures/dungeons doesn't excite me. If I didn't have to grind mats I doubt I would explore nearly as much because it's just more of the same.

But what about Fallout: New Vegas, good sir? Though post-nuclear retrofuture is not everyone's esthethic... But Obsidian did very good job on that. The story is strong, and if you want to explore you will find cool hand-placed stuff, no loot-lvls and auto-leveling was pretty much cut clean out of the game except for some rare instanses

Yeah, pretty sure you're right. But if they gathered players to RP multiple city-building societies to build their's project in survial it could be called RPG-project. Building system is pretty cool and detailed after all

Nah, as a proud founder, builder and knyaz of Celestiaborg i can assure that big city in Valheim will eat up any configuration. On my gaming laptop (GeForce 1650, intel i7 9gen) i have 20-15 FPS inside my city. You need monstrous amount of RAM to have some sort of stability inside big cities in Valheim

i would like to follow it. this is very interesting. i hate grinding but i love the way the game looks. i love old towns forests and bows arrows swords and such. its very cool. dude could you imagine if this turned into a full game wow just wow

interesting. I liked morrowind. but its predecessors, esp arena, had EPIC, AMAZING open world with procedural generation. It had a lot of exploits and clunky stuff (lol, you could enter and exit a random instance like 20 times to multiple each pile of loot inside until there was more than you could want or carry or handle, and you could cut a straight line through a dungeon with the destroy wall spells or create floor spells etc) but the exploration of that gigantic map has rarely been as good in any other game.
