What Makes Valheim So Good?
Valheim truly distinguishes itself as an outstanding gaming experience, prompting deep reflection on the elements that contribute to its captivating allure. I contemplate the unique features that set this game apart from others in the gaming landscape.

Foremost among these standout features is the ability to construct a house, a gameplay element that not only adds versatility but also significantly elevates the game's replay value. Drawing parallels to other captivating titles like World of Warcraft, known for its distinct qualities that make it incomparable, Valheim's strength lies in its intricate housing mechanics. In the case of World of Warcraft, it was the refined combat system that made it truly exceptional.

On a personal note, my experience with World of Warcraft left me feeling notably disappointed. As a dedicated fan of Blizzard's real-time strategy brilliance, my commitment to Warcraft dates back to the earliest days of Orcs and Humans. However, upon exploring the MMORPG realm, a glaring disappointment surfaced – the absence of any construction of buildings. This misstep by Blizzard significantly hindered my ability to immerse myself in WoW.

In stark contrast, Valheim fulfills our longstanding desires by offering a role-playing real-time strategy experience complemented by engaging combat and building gameplay.

Agreed! The building aspect in this game is both captivating and fulfilling. From a simple wooden hut acting as a safe place within a deadly environment to a base containing a myriad of structures made from different materials, construction in Valheim always feels satisfying when taking a break from scouting, hunting, or sailing.

The building aspect is what keeps me coming back to Valheim. Each time I think of something to create, it's nearly always possible in this game. And if I cannot create it through vanilla, then mods will do but I haven't used those yet.

I like the look of the game and building.

Everything else has sort of lost it's shine for me.

Combat needs to be improved, certain environments tweaked, earlier access to crossbow / magic and exploring needs far more random stuff to come across. Pace of development and content released could be a bit faster. Perhaps have a large patch every once in awhile and mini patches that just add stuff to the world for the player to find (buildings, unique enemies, lore, environment stuff, etc...).

It is indeed a great game, but sadly the pace of the devs is a deterrent as nothing of any significance has been done in a long time. While appreciate them for this stellar game, my one critique is the at the "It's done when it's done" is not a valid road map, that is simply a plan to mess around and avoid accountability.
At this point modders are worker faster than the devs, again, not biggie here but really I want them to actually step up here.

gees
yagluth
about 2 hour ago I had the the longest hardest battle i have ever had in any game.
defeating yagluth
anyone that whinges or feels unsatisfied with this game in any way is beyond me.
I have had over 3000 hours in it and still love it.
there are so many little thoughtful things in this game and i cant think of one at present but ok there are huge rocks in the plains and only the plains and they are for making stone walls needed for the plains raids and lox's etc.
the world is huge and such an adventure just exploring this fantasy world.
just the raven, now ravens giving you help through the game is a clever way to give a tutorial.
guidance as you progress.
however that battle with yagluth, I didn't think was possible.
but I gave it a go.
there were 3 tar pools around the spawn spot.
there was a furling camp about 100 meters away, that was easy.
mozzies were way over the top too many yet here is another thoughtful item. the mozzy noses were reqired for the arrows to defeat every thing around. loxes by the million furlings everywhere and flamin' growths.
during the battle i had furlings, many at once and growths galore and at the last i had a 2 star troll after me.
yagluth fire seemed to not help me with all chasing me but I was to busy to really notice.
I really thought i couldn't do it, I watched eso easily slay him and a girl did it with just a knife and another at the waters edge in the water etc but the one i took notice of was the guy who said use frost arrows clean the area up first.
I did all that , had the best armour, er, maybe not i had the um fenris armour except for the helmet, but I made a huge mistake and went in for the kill as he was spawned so wack him with the black metal sword up to max but I got stuck after the first swipe, and forgot the flame resistant potion, take it that is, so was killed right beside him at his spawn spot right at the first minutes.
whats worse , i had my spare bow on me when i died and no spare and no iron to make the um oh the one below the best one.
so went out with a fine wood bow, no damage at all to him to lure him away from my corpse.
then 3 flamin growths found me and it was very misty.
in the end i thought i would start a new game but duck it ?? i thought nah just give it a go and made it.
I lure him away from the tar pools and plains into the black forest were he cleared it logs every were , all the grey people chasing me and furlings, and after about half killing him i had to run back to my base to repair my bow.
it wore out.
And low and behold either the game engine failed or the game did it , I don't know but there were so many trees down and broken rock , you name it, and eventually he had fallen trees all around him and got stuck.
so i just stayed put and used all my frost arrows from my repaired bow and beat him.
He even , at one point, healed completely again so had to start over.
But this is to say all the long hard work required building a base getting your weapons ready and armour food etc , a long hall but this battle was or made all before so worth it.
Best game this is all of it.Now looking forward to the mist lands in the same area.
I like clearing out the draugr camps and the furling ones to make my bases in.
great fun both to clear out. such fun making all the buildings useful in the draugr camps.

Recently watching a video where the vid maker was discussing another game that people find to be good/interesting, they remarked that one of the reasons people found it appealing so much is that there wasnt just one way to go about dealing with various obstacles in that game. Valheim lets people essentially customize their approach to different aspects of the game(within certain limits of course).

Building in valheim of course is a good portion of the appeal but even within that the different approaches to how one builds is similar to the point I just made.

Having only played solo I had to do everything myself.

What I enjoy is the way the grind is broken into different grinds.

Farming, fishing, foraging, hunting, fighting, building, exploring, cooking, sailing, crafting, and mining. I probably missed a few the list is so extensive.

I found myself scheduling days on what I needed next. I'll go mining tomorrow. Once I get that ore smelted I should probably go foraging for berries and shrooms. Uh oh, need more meat. Time to go hunting.

All this in a nice little 2gb package.

What makes Valheim good? It doesn't try to baby me.

I don't want or need my hand held. I don't need a 5 minute tutorial to explain how to run with WASD. I don't want easy missions i can do half-asleep where i'm never in danger of dying.

I want challenges that feel rewarding to overcome, and Valheim has those in spades.
That and base building which i also enjoy.

For me it's the progression system. It feels so exciting to learn new recipes and blueprints. Also explaration. Looking for some nice new places to build in or perhaps some "natural wonders"

No amount of prep or exp makes mistlands fun fyi. its a garbage zone. Most seem to agree.

I absolutely love the atmosphere in the game. When you go to a new biome for the first time it's exciting and unnerving. You explore a little, run into some monsters, run away, then upgrade and try again. The Mistlands are the same way. Mysterious and dangerous. I sneaked in, found some seekers, almost died on the soldier, seen some dwarves fighting the wildlife.
I like trying different building styles and base arrangements. The meadows are absolutely lovely and my favorite passtime is just walking through the forest.

Once I got to the point that I was geared in mistlands gear and learned how to fight or run from seekers, it wasnt so bad. It helped that I was with 2 friends who were also enjoying it. I even had succesful runs into it by myself while they were offline. I found having the crossbow really helped against gjalls and dodge rolling or tower-shield blocking the seekers gave me enough time to hit them while they were prepping their next swing.

Dont get me wrong, the mistlands were usually stressful, and I died a whole lot, but I did enjoy it enough to seek out more runs with other groups after we succesfully killed the Queen. Sadly the other group I got to the Queen with had too many people, so she got a huge health bar, and half the group wasnt good at figuring out the attack patterns in there and kept dying repeatecdly, so they called it quits after about an hour of fighting her. A third group I was playing with started mistlands right after it went live and before it got nerfed and they got so upset with dying that they vowed not to play Valheim again until full release. :X

And yet, some people do enjoy it.

Looking at the OP's post history, they just talk like that. Also they like Valheim a lot. I dont think any AI is involved.
