How do you actually find dungeons
As title, I've read that skeletons spawn topside around dungeon entrances however the only skeletons I've found were at a dilapidated fort. Can this game just ♥♥♥♥ you over by not spawning any?

The frequency of dungeon spawns can vary greatly, but I've never found it that difficult to find enough to get by. Finding a set of 3 skeletons is almost guaranteed that you're near an entrance to a crypt.

It is rare, but not impossible, for dungeons not to spawn in a particular black forest area. But there are many black forest zones on the whole map, way more than you will ever need. Go find another black forest if that one isn't working out.

The problem gets much worse later when looking for a swamp with a crypt. A lot of times the smaller strip swamps on the side of a mountain won't have any. Usually I sail past to see if I see any of those small rectangular buildings before choosing a swamp to visit. Even so, look for one that has a meadows or black forest (not plains!) next to it so you can walk in and out. It's much safer that way.

95% of the tombs are in a Black Forest region. There are very few appearing in Meadows and then it is usually close to the border of the biomes.

If you are struggling to find Tombs then you are going to LOVE the Crypts in the swamp, lol.

Finding them might be easier during the night as they emit a bluish glow. I've noticed that the Black Forest tends to be shrouded in more fog, making days with favorable weather less common. This could be a reason why finding burial chambers is challenging at times. I'd wager that you may have overlooked at least two of them.

An easy way to find dungeons in Black Forest, is watch out for Hugin the raven. He will land near the entrance to a dungeon. And as long you do not talk to him then, he will keep doing that.

And I have never experienced a lack of dungeons in game. if an area is lacking, move on to the next area of that biome. Plenty of them in the world. Only unfortunate situation I have experienced, is if you start of an smaller island with a small Black Forest (and I have only seen that happen once in many worlds I have played). But always an easy raft travel away to the next island. And always explorer all of the starter island first

Actually they are all identical on the outside. What you are describing is how they look depending on how far (if at all) sunken into the surrounding terrain the burial chamber is.
when you find 3 skeletons outside in Black Forest, look for some standing stones or a cave in a hillside

need a sizeable biome, sometimes you get little strips of biomes and you probably wont get a dungeon there

if you find multiple copper domes it should be big enough for some dungeons

To answer your question. Each world guarantees a plethora of crypts on the map in in various black forest biomes. However not all black forest biomes will have lots(or in rare cases) any crypts on the map. Each map(seed) is different in these regards.

If you do not wish to rely on eyeballing for crypts, you can of course opt to use the website that many people do to find anything on their specific map seed:

https://valheim-map.world/

This will show as much on the maps as you wish by box ticking but keep in mind its all spoilers really :P.

This isnt correct. Size of a blackforest biome doesnt necessarily guarantee the map's generation of a crypt. You can find very small blackforest biomes with those crypts situated in them. You can even on rare occasions find those crypts spawning on the side of a mountain adjacent to a black forest.

Here's a good example:

ZkprpDvzku

On that map with the above website map system I linked for the OP, change in the tab menu to "biome only" view and tick the box for "tomb/crypt/Inf.Mine.

You should be able to see from there how large or small, crypt distributions in the black forest biomes (dark green) vary and size of the biome isnt relevant.

But to be more precise for you with coordinates on the map:

-1907, 2048 That decent sized black forest biome has ONE black forest crypt in it.

And then by contrast:

5570, -1812 That small, little black forest biome as THREE crypts in it.

And just south east of it is an even smaller, tiny really, little island of a black forest biome with TWO crypts in it.

Thus, size of the biome doesnt matter. Its RNG of the algorithm used that does the seed generation.

Burial Chambers (dungeons) are found in the Black Forest. You can be unlucky and find no Burial Chambers in smaller Black Forest areas. Burial Chambers usually have 3 skeletons outside as guards. Both have a black entrance that acts as a portal into the dungeon.

Burial Chamber entrances have 2 different appearances. One is an entry into the ground. The other is an above ground stone corridor.

Stone building ruins in the Black Forest will have either greydwarves or skeletons. These are not dungeons.

This dungeon quest will get even more challenging in the later biomes as will the challenge of finding boss locations or their vegvisir. I've used the world generator[valheim-map.world] at the start of my game just to answer the original question on whether the seed has a fair balance of all of these. After that I have a higher confidence that the seed is not bugged and it becomes even more incumbent on my character to develop good exploration skills. Likewise as you venture out by boat you may be tempted to believe that the wind is always in your face or that you can't escape hurricanes or fog. But like the dungeons, the weather is fairly balanced and predictable[valheim.kirilloid.ru] and you need to develop good sailing skills. All part of the Tenth World experience. Skoll!
