I would HIGHLY reccomend that you NOT do so, yet, however. at least 2 biomes are not in the game (Ashlands, Frozen North), so they will be very little besides terrain. And if you go to either place, when those biomes are introduces, you won't be able to get them.
Also, there are map viewers.
As long as the (most of the) new biome isn't discovered, you will be able to get the monsters, landscape and drops from that area.
And the reason I put some words between brackets, is that you always could run into one of the last two biomes while looking for Mistlands or even exploring parts of the Mistlands.
So it can't be completely avoided if you'd like to explore, but you can make sure you don't find too much of it.
