Report a translation problem
Try building wall pieces under the floor that surrounds the fire so that they clip into the ground, just in case the game calculates the fire being outside.
Edit: That was my first thought at least, but might be wrong because I've always built that way and never encountered your problem. And I can see that you have a regular floor piece on top, so try a roof piece see if it works.
I don't remember what the keybind is but when you are in build mode the tooltips should mention snapping. The half wall should snap automatically but if not mess around with the keybinds a bit when building. You'll get a hang of it eventually.
Oh yeah on closer inspection I just noticed that the roof above the firepit is actually a floor piece. In that case OP needs to switch the floor piece to a roof piece, since only roof stops rain.
A proper chimney, minus any fancy tricks which you may learn about later, needs a roof piece directly over the fire and a full 2x2, or one full wall or floor piece, opening to vent. (You can capture smoke instead of venting it if you know what you are doing.)
