Mistlands First Time
So far it's been fun. However. I am having a hard time finding Infested Mines for the Black Core. Wondering aimlessly because I cant see and not finding them. Finding everything else but too few mines and too few cores.

This will be a situation you'll experience throughout the Mistlands: the cores and mines are both rare, to prompt exploration of multiple biome locations instead of settling at the first you see.

Similar to how you can encounter swamps with few crypts (or none at all), this is also the case with Mistlands - you may or may not find mines in one, and they may or may not have sufficient cores to build the workstations you need to progress. This will give you an opportunity to hone your skills fighting Seekers, etc. since you'll have to delve a number of mines, comb multiple biome locations, and take caution as you do so.

A recommendation I would make, however, is to carry (as usual) emergency portal materials with you, and also some spare wisps and ygg wood. Wisp torches do not require a workbench radius to be placed, and are not a primary target of enemies in the Mistlands, though they can still be destroyed by AoE splash damage.

Since this is your first time, drop wisp torches as you go along to help your visibility and navigate a path.

Mines always have a single (working) wisp light pillar in front of them. There are 2 variants: one that spawns in the side of a mountain and has stairs going up for long, the other spawns on hills and looks like a small bunker. If you hear or get attacked by 4+ seekers at day time, a mine is likely close. Going up some big shard hills and looking for light in the mist can help a lot, but you need to have graphic options high for the light to actually be lit on higher distances. The stair ones can also spawn in the outskirts of the Mistlands on those islands, facing outwards.. so you can only really see them from the border of the Mistlands and not from inside.

From experience you need ~2 mines to craft a work station and with that you can already craft everything (with demolish and build, which is of course not ideal). I don't think I ever needed more than 2 Mistlands to get all cores I wanted and needed 3-4 mines to get the Queen location, but I definitely had a game where I got Mistlands without a mine and another where still did not get the Queen location after 3 Mistlands and like 7 mines.

So I can't help it, I'll recommend cheating once again:

Keep in mind that even when you know exactly where on the map the infested mine is, it's still hard to find in the Mistlands soup. It's a biome that seems determined to suck the fun out of the game.

I'd say running into the 3-4 seeker groups is the best indication there is a mine nearby. Gjalls seem more common around skulls and the shore. Otherwise seekers are found one or two at a time in my experience.

My strategy was to pin every notable feature (even broken bridges/armor etc) and use that as a way of navigating and preventing myself from going in circles over things I'd already explored.

The second I ran into a seeker group I knew to look for the one wisp light

Sailing aimlessly looking solely for more infested mines was actually the lowest point of the entire game for me. Mistlands is NOT fun to navigate (both on foot and on boat) and forcing the player to sail blindly from Mistlands blob to Mistlands blob looking for mines was legit terrible.

Infested mines have quite specific looks to them.
Lanterns, stairs, shape of the whole mountain, ruined tower, lots of noise/seekers. After a while you can spot them from quite far.

So try to remember its features, then sail around till you find more. Climbing on top of tall peaks once in a while when exploring deep is also good way to spot them as well.

I don't mind the mist so much if the mines were more frequent. The swamp was bad but this is ridicules. This game is still in flux so I hope that the team will make more changes.

The Mistlands mines should be more compared to the Black forest dungeons and not the swamp crypts. You mostly raided the swamp crypts to get the Bonemass location and a consumable resource that you can use as much as you decide to. The Mistlands mines are for the boss and the cores that are much more like the surtling cores than iron. You really only need a few mines for the resources unless you get unlucky and can hardly use more, since you can't build portals out of the cores or make your 6th level 4 weapon for reasons.
