[ANSWERED] Runing out of wood when there are piles of them next to me?
Hi, I don't get it. When I try to build wood walls I eventually run out of wood even if few minutes ago I created 4 piles of wood on the ground and they are still there.

Is building/crafting strictly about what I have in my own inventory and not include piles of wood or piles of rocks?

Besides, how can I pick up any piles I created before?

piles of wood are nothing more than a decoration to place. has nothing to do with building

false. they are so you can store stacks of wood or stone on the floor and dont need chests or workbenches to do so when you gather these resources in large amounts so they dont despawn overtime and you can leave them there. they arent purely for cosmetics.

Those piles of resources you're placing are for cosmetic purposes. You used 50 wood to craft a pile.

As with all other things, while holding the building hammer, middle-mouse click while mousing over something to deconstruct it.

Yea I noticed building is depending on whatever I have in my inventory.

I also noticed if I destroy the pile of wood, I do get a few back but I somehow doubt its the whole 50 I get back.

So now I get it. :-)

In fact you do get it all back, unless you are overloaded. If wood or anything is in a clump then it wont just pick up what you can carry, it looks at it as a single entity and wont pick any of that stack up. It's not like the individual pieces we think of it as. You can pick up the bundle, get over encumbered, remove number of pieces you need to and move on. Just be sure you aren't about to get in a fight. lol then you're screwed.

I tend to make a chest to keep wood in no matter where I am - you can store more wood (and other stuff) in a smaller area and you only need 10 wood for the chest. I consider the log piles as more decorative or as a container for a small amount of wood. Game runs on inventory only unless you change this with a mod.

They are completely more than purely cosmetic, it is only limited by your own creativity. I have plenty of things woodpiles can do for me. They are a perfect addition to the combat engineers pockets. Build combat power! Essayons.

False.

THEY ARE PURELY COSMETIC.

A stack of wood on the floor takes up more space than a chest and can only hold 1/8th as much wood. There is absolutely zero reason to ever put build stacks of wood/stone instead of putting them in a chest, EXCEPT for cosmetic reasons. They are a purely cosmetic build item.

Uhm, no? As a builder i use carts and stacks. Cart is a moveable chest and when reassembling a building or removing a scaffolding it is faster to build a stack out of excess material than going to the chests or trying to squeeze my cart inside a cramped space. Also you don't to remove all of this random chests afterwards

You have a limited sense of utility then. I can think of at least two areas where they are unique and can save your life, so there is that.

Or MMB with the hammer.

What a silly argument. No one cares whether one thinks it's cosmetic or useful. Get a grip. Play the way you want and don't force others to see things as you do.
Go argue with your parents.
