I'm told (never tried it) that you can lead/push them off as structure onto a ship, but I have also heard they take damage in rough seas. Seems easier to just find a new pack and re-tame some.
Also, I still haven't experimented with it, but the Abyssal harpoon might help: can it be used to harpoon them with minimal or no damage and pull them onto a ship?
Is ValheimRaft currently working? I've heard people say that it's not, although still worth it for the rope ladders. And if we're going to mods, there is one that will allow teleporting wolves.
I stay near a shoreline, but not close enough to aggro any mobs. If you have to cross the ocean, you better have a good bow and a high skill if you encounter a sea serpent. The wolves will attack him/her and probably die if you don't kill it quickly. Try to land in an unpopulated area on the new continent--you don't want to come all that way only to lose them to a troll or squad of fulings.
Just make sure you don't transit the ocean at night.
Sea serpent spawns are a sure fire way to lose your wolfs.
If it is a long journey, consider splitting it in multiple parts with small bases along the way.
To make it even safer you could leave offspring behind at those bases, in case something goes wrong.
the dogs may or may not stay on the boat. sometimes they aggrod or fell into the ocean. but they keep following you as long as you dont sail too far.
it was tedious like hell, but super fun project expedition with friends.
you could do that with lox also. its was one bizzare adventure. lox on longboat trip across the ocean.
Ofc the critter in there could be on a timer if they stay their for too long they snuff it if you wanna be slightly realistic and prevent the :
"War chest of packaged Wolves"
Phenomena, which I experienced in Conan exiles.. (Actually that was worse as to stop the timer we'd put our Animals int he FRIDGE so the didn't die from being in storage too long. - Now you know A reason I don't play that so much anymore :D )

Sadly, I just spent several days moving a new contingent of wolves by sea, only to have a troll show up and kill all of them while I was unloading the boat. Sometimes it seems the game is Machivellian in its evil ways.
