Transporting wolves
Trying to find out how to get my wolves to another continent. Can't seem to find a pass discussion on the topic. Would be nice to be able to pick up tamed wolves and put them in ships cargo hold.

ouch good luck with that.

I'm told (never tried it) that you can lead/push them off as structure onto a ship, but I have also heard they take damage in rough seas. Seems easier to just find a new pack and re-tame some.

The ValheimRAFT mod might make that easier, if you're a mod user or willing to consider it. You could customize the raft to make the transport easier, starting with a boarding ramp. If the customization includes a second floor (I've done it), then you might be able build a ramp to get them up there, and that might help protect them from ocean/water damage.

Also, I still haven't experimented with it, but the Abyssal harpoon might help: can it be used to harpoon them with minimal or no damage and pull them onto a ship?

Is ValheimRaft currently working? I've heard people say that it's not, although still worth it for the rope ladders. And if we're going to mods, there is one that will allow teleporting wolves.

It's actually pretty easy. You grab about 4 wolves to follow, climb onto your ship, and go slowly to the new continent. I find somewhere between sculling and stop to be the right speed. They will catch up to you as you slow down. I've had them dog paddle behind me for days at a time.

I stay near a shoreline, but not close enough to aggro any mobs. If you have to cross the ocean, you better have a good bow and a high skill if you encounter a sea serpent. The wolves will attack him/her and probably die if you don't kill it quickly. Try to land in an unpopulated area on the new continent--you don't want to come all that way only to lose them to a troll or squad of fulings.

It is, with a bug for at least some of us: parts will "disconnect" and float when leaving and returning, and the only known solution is restarting that game from the main menu. It's some sort of a rendering/redraw hiccup; there's probably another band-aid for it that hasn't been discovered. Someone said they had it happen to normal structures as well.

Do you want to consider being able to take them through portals?

There are plenty of youtube guides out there, that explain how to do it by longship.
Just make sure you don't transit the ocean at night.
Sea serpent spawns are a sure fire way to lose your wolfs.
If it is a long journey, consider splitting it in multiple parts with small bases along the way.
To make it even safer you could leave offspring behind at those bases, in case something goes wrong.

create a ramp, put your boat below the ramp, and push your dogs into the boat
the dogs may or may not stay on the boat. sometimes they aggrod or fell into the ocean. but they keep following you as long as you dont sail too far.
it was tedious like hell, but super fun project expedition with friends.
you could do that with lox also. its was one bizzare adventure. lox on longboat trip across the ocean.

I await the day somebody finds a way to make an "Animal cage" item which you "use" on said animal to load them in the you can put it in your inventory..
Ofc the critter in there could be on a timer if they stay their for too long they snuff it if you wanna be slightly realistic and prevent the :

"War chest of packaged Wolves"

Phenomena, which I experienced in Conan exiles.. (Actually that was worse as to stop the timer we'd put our Animals int he FRIDGE so the didn't die from being in storage too long. - Now you know A reason I don't play that so much anymore :D )

The portal would be nice even if it was one wolf at a time. Some seeds have continents without mountains. Thx for all the great input

Sadly, I just spent several days moving a new contingent of wolves by sea, only to have a troll show up and kill all of them while I was unloading the boat. Sometimes it seems the game is Machivellian in its evil ways.

Valheim Plus[www.nexusmods.com] also has an option to open up the portals.
; Enables you to teleport with ores and other usually teleport restricted objects. noTeleportPrevention = True
