new player help (spooky stuff)

hello, no spoilers pls, but im travelling and wondering what to do about the hooded figure that is sometimes showing up at night. Saw him twice while boating and once while on foot now, tried approaching twice and poof!

A third time, on foot, i shot arrows, wagering i wouldnt be attacked, i wasnt, but nothing else happened, pooof, disappeared while being approached, any very light hints?

(in addition, hoping i find something fun to do with dragon eggs (i hauled 3 back to base lol) and dark metal scrap, seems i cannot smelt them and theyre junk other wise

Its not part of the halloween going on, its more of a viking lore thing.

Eggs look great as decoration (on vertical bronze nails) but otherwise getting them to base is not really useful. To smelt black metal you first have to use the eggs :)

The guy in the hood is part of Norse mythology. So is the bird woman (Valkyrie) that flew you to your spawn point at the start of the game and the ravens (Hugin and Munin) that give you game hints.

If you look up during the day the huge green branch you see stretching across the sky is also from Norse myth as is the Norse Easter egg that you might see if you are looking up during a thunderstorm.

There are also other Easter eggs from Norse myth that you will find in the game (but you'll only really recognize them if you have read and are familiar with Norse myths).

The dragon's eggs have a game purpose and they can also be used as low level light source for decoration if you place them on an item stand.

The hooded guy does nothing besides let you know you might encounter more than one enemy up ahead. essentially he's like a warning that "There could be trouble" but its not always accurate.

The Hooded Guy i always thought was Odin

The hooded guy is definitely Odin. He's a voyeur and is keeping an eye on all his vikings. Hugin and Munin are his ravens and perch on his shoulders to tell him what's going on in the the 9 worlds (now ten, apparently) connected by Yggsdrasil and the Bifrost Bridge to Valhalla. Get a good book on Norse Mythology and you'll start recognizing some of the underlying story elements. Like Thor, sea serpents, dragon prowed ships, Fenrir, etc. Haven't seen Loki yet, but the giggling fulings come close.

Odin appears as a one eyed ghost after killing the second boss. At night.
Thor appears after killing the 4th. During Storms, simply watch for ball lightning.

Not explored much of the mistlands, but I've not seen much of anything about Loki, other than one lorestone detailing what he did during the war.

Yes. Notice from afar he has only one eye and a staff. Who else is a one eyed wonderer?

Same here. The group I play with will usually call out "Hey Odin" and that's about enough time for him to mysteriously vanish.

no idea i guess it is odin as that is what everyone says but i did notice the one eye after a 4th, real intense stand off.

Yup it is odin. Check out how the ward structure looks like. It also is odin.
