My first advice would be to explore your map in other directions and there you check out stone ruins and burial chambers in black forest areas. There are often to find vegvesirs, which can lead you to other Elders locations.
When you don't find anything you can also use the Valheim World Generator, there you put your seed number and make boss locations visible. But this will spoil all bosses, not only the Elder.
Last advice: when in big trouble and dying over and over again with no way to get back to your gravestone, you can set your game difficulty to casual to get your stuff out of a dangerous area. Well, but won't help in ocean.
Also make sure to have always some replacement for your weapons and a few armor pieces in your base, just in case.
In my current game one time such preparation didn't help me. I died 3 times in a row trying to get back to my grave stone and was not able to pick up my gears. Until I was out of all ressources. Well, shame on me: I set my game to casul for few minutes and reached all my gravestones without issues, I don't regret it.
I've hit that point a few times to. I usually use the Devconsole to just quick go ghostmode with no damage (in case of falling off a cliff stupidly running to the grave).
Currently my grave is sitting on a far off plain near a longship being destroyed by lox in my search for a mountain to even begin mining silver. . .I've only found plains.
Plains and the Swamps are not scary, Mosquito's have been heavily nerfed and don't one-shot you any more, they can easily be taken out from range. Swamps you just need to make a path to be safe, all the monsters die using Bow / wooden arrows with ease, use fire arrows to kill the Root monster and don't forget to make and use poison potions.
I wish you good luck and happy adventuring Megatron.
I had completely forgotten that the difficulty could be changed. This is something will definitely make use of should I die again far away from home.
I did not know there were several locations of bosses. I will try to find
another spawn location because I fully agree with Sibbs here I don't want to use any cheats.
Keeping some backup gear is a lesson I learned too now :) It was a real pain to get my bronze/troll gear back together.
Again thanks guys you have helped me alot and also happy adventuring to you guys as well.
You always get a tombstone. if you die in the water it will just float there in the water till you come get your stuff. The pieces of the boat might sink (Nails, resin and deer hide, and presumably leather scraps all sink, the wood floats), but your tombstone floats as does the contents of the cargo hold from the boat if it had any cargo in it.
