what the hell is the giant ant thing on the menu screen?
On my menu screen I have black forest. I don't remember if it used to be meadows, and I don't remember if it changed in previous versions, but this time I noticed something. It's definitely black forest, because of the pines & firs. Off to the right side of the screen 'hiding' behind a tree is some giant ant thing that I've never noticed before. Is this a new critter in the game? is it in black forest? do I need to be super cautious with the new character in this new playthrough because I haven't played for a hot minute? Is it just some thing on a menu?
anyhoo I'm off to hunt boars and deer and flint so I can start upgrading my gear :)

Its a Mistlands enemy. They change the menu screen with each new version and that 'ant' was added when they released Misltands.

thanks. it looks like a thing my 6hr character is kinda maybe not ready for, is it in the mistlands biome? I'm super ok with them if they are lol, basically if they aint black forest they're a very-future-me problem. thanks mate *thumbs up*

You won't run into them unless you go to the Mistlands biome... but once you kill the plains boss (Yagluth) you could potentially get raided by them even if you haven't gone to Mistlands. Long time away for you. :)

And, yes, those can and will attack you in the Black Forest at a time in your future. Hopefully not too much of a spoiler....

Thank you all for the replies and lack of spoilers. I'll make sure I have enough vespene gas before I take them on.

They will wander slightly out of the mistlands. I have a place where plains is right next to mistlands, and groups of the stupid [main plains creature] occasionally rile up a insect or two. The insects then clear out a chunk of plains. (EvenLox herdsget wiped out. There isn't atar pitclose enough to see how that fight would go.) And then they hang out in the plains for a bit before wandering back into the nmistlands.
So the picture where one is in the forest is possible.

My very first Mistland experience was going in 10 steps, running out when I heard them and those things coming out into the plains and cleaning up the place while I ran as fast as I could and a trumpet following them soon after. I thought that is just what Mistlands would be like. Seems I was just extremely unlucky or lucky.

a small tip.. All enemys take more damage from one weapon than the other.
The "ants" ( seeker ) have though skin, so you need a weapon that can penetrate armour.
Alternative get the BIG hammer it can also hurt and kill enemys in all directions and push them away if they get to close to you.. And the seeker soldier... avoid it.

The enemy i hate the most in the game are these "ants/seekers" that you find in the mistlands.
( and regarding mistlands, you need to make sure you have extra "fireflies" or what ever they are named in your base just in case you die so you can use them to remove the fog so you can see where you are going when trying to get back to your gear. )

Armour penetration is not a thing in Valheim and enemies do not have any armour in this game. Seekers have some resistances however, but for those specifically you have the choice between "special" weapons doing more damage OR "normal" weapons staggering them from damage (except one weapon that can do both), so you might very much keep using "normal" weapons (need like 2 hits for stagger and the 3rd kills if your skill level isn't super low). Of course you can always parry stagger, but that can take longer and isn't always great when fighting more than 1.

Using the Porcupine will stun Seekers fast, i only worry if i get 1 or 2 Star Seekers. Soldiers are a bit more work. Black Metal Tower Shield with Root Harnesk is my main gear here. They have a strong Pierce Attack and are week to Frost too. So i do my best to use arrows on Soldiers Rears - Crit Area. If no arrows then Porcupine to their backsides! Just wait for their extended attack and run to the back of them.
