That's the only reason one would need to do that.
Only the area you've already explored was generated. If you find a Mistland biome now, it will be generated with your VH's current map generation algorithm -> you will get the current Mistland.
And if that is not enough just use Upgrade World[valheim.thunderstore.io]...
EDIT: It enabled me and my friends to keep our map from ~2,5 years ago up-to-date til today with only minor problems (added onions+caves in mountains, tar in plains, mistlands and whatever I forgot).
@L1m3r yeah I explored a lot of it, but upgrade world sounds promising
