Key bindings
I am new to the game, and one thing that is very off putting is the [Enter] key is bound as the console key.

Is there any way to change this, its not showing in the keyboard bindings,
I want to use that key as jump, like I do in ALL the other games I play.

If anyone knows the answer please let me know.

And if your a developer for this game, please add this key as something that can be changed in the settings. there is no need to force bindings in a game.

Thanks

Ahhh, also you dont seem to be able to bind the scroll mouse to anything! how can a game that looks so good has such poor control settings? am i missing something?

you don´t miss anything, game is not lefthanded friendly
i reyed to rebind keys 1-8 (few more too) on numeric side but it´s impossible, sad but true

Scroll is used for zooming in and out and also for rotating building pieces. Why would you change that?
As for key binding, I don’t know… maybe you can check if there is a mod for that.

I can only guess that developers are too busy working on updates and stuff like this might get their attention later when they will be fine polishing the game.

The thing about making controls rebindable is it's easier to do the earlier you do it, trying to jam that it at the end of development will inevitably generate fractal bugs.

Unfortunately your best bet is the usual third party tools. Autohotkey, mice with macro support in the drivers, etc.

That sucks so much, How something so small will now probably mean i just don't play the game. I dont agree it would be a risk to fix, its probably less than a days development, Very disappointing. its 2023! how can a game not be left and friendly

Yes a lot of actual developers think like that too. At first.

Haha true, I am actually a professional technical lead developer. But even so, its a small change. And there is just no reason to force any key bindings, Dictating what key a user must use for a given function is a needless limitation,

if so then you know that a beta is something to be polished later, not sooner.

as much as you say it's a small amount of time to do, it isn't when they're focused on the main core features of the game first, which is in fact the right way to develop games.

get all the features out first, then do the polishing.

i mean what's the point of doing a control update if new features in the future will require another?

two steps forward and three steps back.

or better yet, garbage in garbage out.

Seems like you should consider controls a main core feature of the game. The problem is this only gets more expensive to fix over time, the longer the game has hardcoded controls the more code will sneak in that accidentally relies on that.

100%, I understand you have to work on priorities, But something like this just limits the audience for almost no reason. The system is already there, its just not being used fully (ie for all keys) So annoying. Its not a complex game request, its just a case of do what you already do for all the keys..

But the arrow keys do work.

You can try using UABEA[github.com] to edit
..\SteamApps\common\Valheim\valheim_Data\globalgamemanagers
  1. "Export Dump" of "unnamed asset" with "Type = InputManager[docs.unity3d.com]"
  2. edit the dump with any text editor to you liking (search for: positiveButton = "return").
  3. "Import Dump"
  4. (save?)
Dunno if this will work but I used the same method to enable surround sound (same file, different asset).

But writing a mod might be easier/better?

Hate to disappoint but from the user posts there it looks like it only works with some caveats at least (for some time now)
